For the past couple of years I have been using a Supersonic 112 60W Combo. Great Amp I love it. Over the last couple of weeks it seem to have been developing a problem. When I first switch it on after 5 or 10 mins warming up it seems to switch off for a fraction of a second. Both the the sound and lights cut off it then it comes back on and it`s fine. Tonight it did it for slightly longer but still not a full second and I am now starting to worry! Can anyone help? I always plug it into a surge protection extension with a built in power conditioner in. Could this cause a problem?

Hi Hompie29,

You should try the amp without the surge protector first, to eliminate the possibility of the surge protector being the problem. Unless you have some sort of power problems where you live, I would ditch the surge protector. Also, make sure that the outlet that the amp is plugged into is sound, not loose. If it is an amp problem, it sounds like a bad connection, maybe solder joints, or a faulty standby switch or switch connection.

Half of the nation's antiquated power grid has problems......this is a bad idea.

Whats is the use for a surge protector for a tube amp ? Power conditionner..., you really need that ?
For computer , HD tv set or high end electronic , could be useful, but for tubes amp ???
Like Shimmilou ; Bad connection or solder in the amp and try without you surge protector first.

Thanks guys I will try without surge protector. Maybe I am overcautious with the Surge protector but just figure sometime it may save an expensive repair. And the one I had just happened to have a power conditioner in it!

Think it may be the wall socket I was using cause it happened without the surge protector. I changed to another socket and so far no more probs so fingers crossed.
