Please can anyone reccomend replacement tubes for my HR DeVille 410, I'm thinking of going Mesa 6L6GC's and EH or Harma 12 AX7's.

I play a 72 Tele Custom RI amd am trying to achieve an Izzy Stradlin' on Appetite for Destruction type tone with the ability to go more overdriven and a bit Marshally on the More Drive channel while retaining the beautiful clean tone.

Less Muddy, more dynamic dist. really.

Thank you for your help.

What effect would 2 Tung-Sol 6L6GC-STR and 3 EH 12AX7's have on my DeVille?

Hey Celtic Cyclonus,
I am certainly a far cry from being a tube amp guru. I don't 'hear' the same things that some of the tube fanatics 'hear' and I can't imagine getting a Fender to sound like a Marshall nor a Marshall to sound like a Fender, BUT if I wanted to tweak my sound by changing tubes, I would recommend that you pose this exact question to the guys at: http://www.thetubestore.com It's their specialty, they handle a large variety, and appear to be quite knowledgable. Also, their prices are competitive.

I found a better store that does not bash Groove Tubes ( a Fender owned Company) and had even better prices.
Google, Music parts Guru
I got a pair of 6L6 blue coded groove tubes for much less than other stores, and the staff was great !!!

You can try calling Eurotubes too. The guy Bob there is really knowledgeable. They only sell JJ's. I use them in my HRDlx and like them a lot. Really made the drive more drive channel's usable and did away with the icepick in the forehead syndrome.

I believe Electro Harmonix picked them up. They were great tubes. I haven't used them in a long time.

Please please please... check out Eurotubes.com. JJ Tubes are the best tubes I have ever played with, and the customer service is incredible. They have full retube kits for the Hot Rod DeVilles, and their tubes are special as they are designed to rattle less (a problem for cranked Hot Rods).

Here is the page to the Hot Rod retube kits:

https://ssl.eurotubes.com/cart/index.ph ... gory_id=32

They will make GT, EH, Svetlana, Philips, Sovtek, and other tubes sound harsh, while being more consistent and lasting longer than Tung Sol and Winged C in my experience. Give em' a try, you won't look back.

I have a blues deluxe, (Close enough). I just put in SED 6l6GC Power tubes, Amazing! And Mullard 12ax7 new production, Also amazing! I had the same problem with my distortion, and these tubes fixed it right up. Distortion is beautiful and smooth now. with the experience ive had in the past, to clean up distortion, you usually lose some, but these tubes allowed me to keep it all. :D

IMHO, Almost any tubes other than the stock GT's will sound better. Not bashing GT's but I just call em as a hear em.
