Hi there!

Anyone has this problem, or something like it? My FM65R works well for an hour or so, and then goes all silent, with the light on. After I let it "rest" for a while, it works fine... until It doesn't!

Any ideias or solutions will be very welcome!

You have to check about "dry" solder joints or a track that is open at hot.

There is no high DC voltage in this amp (excepted primary AC supply), however if you have no experience in electronics, I suggest to contact a good tech, it seems not a big deal to repair it.

BTW. Do you hear a clic when the sound goes aways ? (There is an thermal overprotection on this amp if I remember well )

Thanks, will take a closer look at the solder work, and your reference to the overheating protection might be a good guess.

I can offer only one solution to this problem...
Turn the other direction, and run as fast as possible away from any amp bearing the Frontman name. Or...get it fixed and be happy with it until it breaks again.

Now, now, now.... There is nothing wrong with the Frontman series of amps. They are good amps for solid state. I have the Frontman 65r and don't have any issues with it (knock on wood!).

I would take the amp to a repair shop. It sounds like it's overheating or something and cuts itself off. Mine doesn't do that though (again, knock on wood!).

Then again... what are your amp settings? (Volume, treble, bass, gain, etc...)? Are you playing with the amp at high volume and the guitar turned way down low?

Glad you've had good luck with your amp Butch! You seem to be one of the lucky few indeed.

Hi there, you guys!

Ok, I only managed to open up the amp today, since it's not my main amp, it's not a priority.

ALL seems fine with the solder work, and there was very little dust hanging around, much to my surprise.

I've experienced the cut-offs both doubling a guitar for recording (the amp was on the clean channel around volume 5) and regular playing, distortion channel with volume 5 and up problably, not shure. Guitar on full volume.

Gonna try and clean the PCB gently and possibly blow dry it(!) to make sure there's no humidity issues causing this, and then try agains in the same settings.

@TimDrake I?ll probably follow your advice as soon as I get this solved, I really enjoy the clean channel on this one, but the distortion... that's a whole other story!
