Congrats PTM, she looks real good and doesn't it feel great to hear that tone and know you built it?
Have fun playing it, they are great amps and sound awesome!! 8)
Now you just need to get a nice cover for it.

Thanks guys!

Yes, it sure does feel good Snowy. I definitely bought this for the experience - it can be very rewarding.

The amp absolutely nails that late 80's/early 90's Keith Richards tone.

Can't wait to get my new speaker!

PTM thanks for the pics. This could serve as a "How To" for wiring up an amp kit. Very Nice. Enjoy playing this one.

Very nice job! It's so cool that these kits are available. BTW.. like some others on the board with this DIY amp... the owner of the Deluxe I built awhile back went to 6072 (mil spec 12AY7) in the input stage. Really does give some of these amps a more "tweedish" tone. Slower onset of OD. A little better range in tonal control-- or a bit more responsive to guitar settings. Just a thought.

Enjoy it... nice progression of photos.

Great build. Great photos. I've been wanting to build one of these for a while myself. Now I [i]really[i] want to do one after seeing yours!

Man these amps are awesome! It's like having an amp with only an overdrive channel - except it's the best OD you've ever heard so you love that it's always on. VERY touch sensitive - responds to the way you play and VERY responsive to the guitar volume and tone knobs. I've been getting so many tones out of this amp but I haven't touched the knobs on the amp at all! It's responsive like no other amp I've ever played with.

I think everyone owes it to themselves to play through a 5E3 or similar tweed.

Yeah they are awesome, theres some really nice fat cleans in there as well. You can also find some different flavours if you start playing with the Volume knob on the channel you're not plugged into.

As an example, when you adjust it to about "6" you you maximum fatness and drive then as you get to about "10" it starts scooping the mids and cleaning up the tone. Lots of great sounds and fun to be had in those 3 knobs and how hard you hit the strings. 8)

Also as mentioned definitely try a 12AY7 in V1, I like the amp much better running that tube, it'll make that sweet spot even wider and to me the amp just sounds nicer.

A strange effect is that I found that building my own gave me an urge to build more and I just don't need them!

Oh man, no kidding. I have been resisting the urge to order a 5F1 kit and I've already got a Champ.

Just an update:

Today, I finally received my 1961 Jensen P12Q that I scored on eBay! Installed it right away and all I can say is WOW! There is a real difference between this speaker and the reissue Jensen C12Q that it replaced. The breakup is smooooth and the overdriven compression sounds much better. The amp is also appreciably louder despite there being only a 5 watt difference between the ratings of either speaker...
