For quite awhile I've been pondering my next tube amp. I figured a 65 DRRI would do the trick, but always wondered if maybe I'd be better off with something else, like maybe a Peavey Classic 30. I like both amps, but the 65 DRRI is a bit pricier, and it's not like I'm going on tour anytime soon. Then the other day I'm reading a post by a guy who is debating between a HRD & a DRRI. I stumbled onto Arjay's reply, which goes something like "There are two kinds of guitar players; those who own a DRRI and those who are gonna own one." Well, that did it. Later that day I was at a store & spotted a used DRRI in mint condition for the price of a new Classic 30. I gave it a spin - oooohhhh baby, I love me some of that warm Fender tubety goodness. Anyway, it left the store with me. I told my daughter she would get it when I was done with it, which hopefully won't be for a long, long time. Thanks alot, Arjay - look what you made me do! No pics, but it looks like a DRRI, the only exception is the jewel light is blue vice red - must be an aftermarket mod. I kinda like it - it matches the light on my Carbon Copy delay. Either way, I won't need a new tube amp for awhile - maybe ever.

Congrats on your purchase!
It's a fine amp, speaking from the pov that I own it as well.
Though with Irene at my front door, I've moved it to the highest floor in my house to protect it!!

Arjay's recommendation pretty much sealed it for me too!
He must be getting a 'cut'....only way to explain his collection...

Stay safe, Ty.

And both of you guys, enjoy those amps......the originals are classics and so it is with the re-issues.

RAWK ON!

Nah......I've just been around for a while.

(a good long while)

It's very self-satisfying to help someone else re-discover what Leo left us during his time on this rock, and how close to perfection they truly were. There are "amps" and there are "Fender amps". Then, beyond that, there are Leo Fender amps. The latter shall remain evermore without peer.

JMO of course!

RAWK ON, ALL!

One thing I can still remember is walking into a music story (sometime in the early 60's IIRC :? ) and there was this guy playing a Fender Stratocaster guitar through a, then new Fender amp, called a "Twin Reverb". God, that sounded great!! And right beside it was a "Deluxe Reverb" Those were some "magical" times.!! 8)

+1 indeed!

When I was a kid the Sherman-Clay Piano & Organ Center (chain music store out in California) used to sponsor several annual battle-of-the-band events at local shopping centers (the term "mall" had yet to be invented) and they'd provide a massive top-tier amp backline of all the brands they stocked......Fender, Standel, Vox. The year that our band made it to the semi-finals I got to play through a brand-new Super Beatle. As a youngster, I was mighty impressed with the volume and the features. A pity that my Teisco guitar didn't actually sound any better.

And for the "modern" players, the DRRI sounds great with a heavy distortion or overdrive pedal in front of it! My Fulldrive set to about 9:00 on the drive dial (low-medium gain) is just pure heaven!

+1!

I use a Fulltone OCD V.1 myself and it sounds like frying bacon smells.
