Hi, I recently picked up a Blues Deluxe Reissue. It makes a lot of noise when I run it with effect pedals, especially overdrive or distortion pedals (like Boss BD2, Tube screamer, Rat pedal..). Does anyone have the same problem?

If it is quiet without the pedals and noisy with them, you are probably setting the pedal gain (overdrive) too high. Any pedal will add noise to an amp depending on how high you set the pedal gain and output level. Try turning the pedal gain (overdrive) down and adjusting the output level so it is the same with or without the pedal engaged. Then gradually increase the pedal overdrive until you reach the sound you want. Finally, turn the output level down to the overall level you want. I set my output level to be unity output with the pedal engaged at the overdrive level I want. I use a Fulldrive 2M and the amp is just slightly noisier than without the pedal. Yes, I have a BDRI also.

+1 What are your pedal settings?

The ones that sound good to me.

Dont take offense, but I quit sharing specific knob settings on amps and pedals some time ago. Unless you are using the exact same guitar, pedal and amp that I am, and have the same taste in sound that I do, the settings I think sound great may sound like crap to you. My best advice is to experiment until you find what sounds good to you.

None taken. I was just wanting the OP to reveal his gain settings to see if your suspicions are correct. Either you're right or it's an issue with something else. Just trying to help in the troubleshooting...

Ah. Then it would have been better to quote and respond to the OP's post with your question rather than mine.

I run a lot of different pedals with my BDRI. I keep the gain way down, play it only on the clean channel and plug into the second jack and it seems to tame the beast when I use the pedals. Still hisses when I use the Big Muff with the Soul Preacher turned on, but only when I am not playing....

I am usually using pedals only at low levels though, around 4 on the amp in the studio.

Hi guys, thanks alot for your replies. Adjusting volumes / gain like Bill suggested, helps alot to reduce noise. But even at very low gain there's a constant hum or hiss, when I plug into the second jack the hiss is less (thanks majorbytes, didn't think about doing that). I also have a Fender Hot Rod Deville and this amp takes pedals much better than the BDRI.

Input #2 is intended for use with humbuckers or other high level signals. The noise is lessened when you plug into input #2 because the sensitivity of input #2 is 6 dB less than that of input #1. That means that in order to get the same volume level you had with input #1, you will have to turn the amp volume up louder or increase the output level of the pedal when using input #2. Amplifiers amplify any signal you provide it. Pedals are inherently noisy. That noise is going to be amplified regardless of your settings. All you can do is make adjustments to your settings to try and minimize the noise. An amp with pedals will never be as quiet as plugging straight into your amp with the guitar.
