I have a brand new Hot Rod Deluxe III with less than 5 hours on it. I love it and yesterday at practice it was awesome. I was running the (more) drive channel through input 2 (B) don't remember the exact volumes but nothing was over 5. I use Gibson P90 pickups, an overdrive pedal for solos that just bump it up a notch and then a big muff once in a while. when I paused after a song there was a humming/buzzung sound. I'm pretty sure it is the drive channel preamp tube cause when I disengaged that channel the noise went away. and when I pressed the button I can hear what sounded like a microphonic high pitch sound.

So I will replace the tube tomorrow to see if that is the issue. But my concern is, is this gonna happen again? I was at a partial band rehearsal at what I would call medium volume. I would certainly like to play louder under some circumstances.

Is this an anomaly or normal for these amps?

Definitely an anomaly which should be fully investigated and corrected.

I'd take it back to the store and insist that they repair or exchange it.

On top of retro advices, the valves are under warranty for a couple of months. 8)

thanks guys I will take it to where I bought it. love the amp so I hope it's just an anomaly. in fact I like it so much I'm thinking of getting a supersonic 100 head for larger and louder gigs. All my friends are using Hiwatts and Marshalls. but I think I got the Fender bug.

by the looks of things you are quite the expert...

is there a huge difference between the new Supersonic Twin and what they were calling "the Twin" a couple years ago? besides the new features especially on the back panel??

The basic architecture between the two amps is similar but the Supersonic 100 adds a couple of useful twists not available on The Twin Amp, specifically the front-panel "notch-sweep" filter and the auto-biasing feature which is very handy if you're into swapping output tubes.

Perhaps you might don some Depends before visiting a GC......?

$1600 is a bit steep for a '69, even in pristine condition. $1200 to $1350 is closer to fair market value.

Rawk on!
