Would anyone have a way to get ahold of Mark himself... email address...etc? I was reading about his mods on another forum and Mark indicated that one of the problems he was experiencing was a popping noise when engaging the vibrato via the footswitch and that he was able to address it with his mods. I have been pulling my hair out over the same problem but with my reissue Twin Reverb. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have a Vibrolux Reverb. I'm playing through a reissue Twin Reverb. I'm experiencing a popping noise when engaging the vibrato via the footswitch. This only occurs when the reverb is "ON". It was mentioned in a post as part of a summary of Mark's mods, that he was experiencing the same thing, and it sounded as though his mods fixed the problem. I'm trying to get to the bottom of what he did to fix it. And even more so what was causing it.

OK, first make sure that the ground of the footswitch in not impedant. Between S6 and S7 in the footswitch and ground on the chassis, you should measure almost 0 Ohm with an Ohmeter.
Don't forget to make measurements unplugged !

Ok - I'll double check this again. Just to give a little insight. This pop only happens when engaging / disengaging the vibrato and the reverb is on. It's stronger when engaging the vibrato, and weker when shutting it off. When I shut off the reverb via the footswitch the pop goes away. Now with that being said, I disconnected the gray wire (coming from the pc board = reverb circuit) from the footswitch jack, which leaves the reverb "ON" and guess what - no pop when engaging the vibrato with the footswitch. As soon as I hooked the gray wire back up to the footswitch jack, the pop was back.

May be coupling or bad ground connection. If it is possible, use 2 pair of wires in order to separate the ground in the footswitch and connect 2 grounds directly on the chassis.

That may prove problematic for the TRRI, which uses a single 3-conductor ¼-inch phone jack/plug configuration for the footswitch......

I'm measuring about .4 ohms.

Yes - One of the things I noticed is that tapping on either of the wires going to each terminal in the footswitch you can here it in the speakers, amost like tapping on a microphone. I thinking that it's possibly something going on in the actual vibrato circuit but is being picked up by the footswitch acting like as I mentioned a sort of microphone. I know that the reverb circuit is deactivated by the footswitch by grounding it out. The vibrato when engaged with the footswitch grounds the circuit activating it. The voltage is a negative voltage. I'm just trying to figure out if there is something in the circuit that surpresses it during the momentary switching so that there is not a large charge on the switch during activation. Something else I notice is thaif I shut the vibrato off for a minute or two and then activate it the pop is louder. If I turn the vibrato on and off a couple of times the pop is not as loud, as though the voltage has been discharged.

Have you tried a different footswitch?

No - But I had another Reissue Twin Reverb (Custom 15) (2006) with the same exact problem. I tried a known good footswitch but to no avail. Problem remained.

It's seems like the newer the re-issue, the more problems they have. Both of mine ('91 TRRI, '93 DRRI) have always performed flawlessly. Hmm......?
