I just got this amp last week and am VERY impressed by it. Has all of the sweet sweet fender tube tone that anyone could ever ask for and is very well built (solid construction). I had even got a coupon from guitar center that gave me $100 off which made the deal even sweeter!

If you're reading this and thinking about getting this little gem, do it. You won't regret it at all! :-)

Congrats joe79! :)

I like my BJr II very much also, and for the money, it is hard to beat. I picked my BJr after trying umpteen small solid state amps, looking for light weight, low cost and decent sound as criteria. I was not happy with any of the ss amps, except that they were light weight. When I plugged into the BJr, it was immediately apparent that it fit the bill perfectly, with better sound that I thought from such a small package. I figured it out all by myself, without ever reading a single internet review beforehand.

If you get the chance, try the amp with an external speaker cab, instead of the amp speaker, and it's even more impressive (unplug amp speaker, plug in external in its place).

I wonder how it would sound with the 4-12" cabinet meant for the mustang 100w amp head. It's only $300.

:o My bet is that if this cab has nice, efficient speakers, it will astound you, and you won't believe that this little amp can produce so much sound. Please let us know your thoughts if you try this. :D

I just purchased my Blues Junior III a few days ago and I love it. I had a Vox VT30 modeling amp and just could not coax the sweet tube break-up for blues that I was looking for. The Junior fills that task perfectly. The sound with the fat switch engaged is great but for extra grit, I stomp on the MXR classic overdrive pedal, roll back the tone pot and I'm in blues heaven. I am also amazed at how clean and articulate is can sound as well.
This amp is surprisingly loud for 15w. I may have to build / buy an attenuator now. :-)

Hi johnmurphyjr,

Congrats on the new amp. It is surprising how clean and clear the sound can get, almost unlike EL84s at all. It truly does that nice Fender clean tone as well as the great overdrive tone also, and works great with just about all pedals. You probably won't need an attenuator, as with the master and volume you can get some nice distortion at lower volumes. If you want to be even more amazed with the amp, hook it up to an external cabinet, sweet. Enjoy! :)

Shimmilou,
New to the site.
I'm going to GC tomorrow after church to try out the BJiii. I'm really exited to hear how it matches up with my tele, and will probably leave the store with one. Interested in your comments about an extension cab. Do you have a preference/a site to explore? Also, have you tried swapping the speaker? I've heard the Rajun Cajun or Texas Heat work very well in the BJ. Thoughts?

Hi uscgamcks,

I use the HRDlx 1x12 ext cab, that came with a Celestion G12P80. This speaker in the cab was lacking highs, but had killer lows and mids, and sounded great with the BJr loud and driven. Removing the back panel of the ext cab improved the high response quite a bit but lost lows, so I put the Celestion in the BJr, and put the Eminence from the BJr in the ext cab with the back on. The Celestion sounds better in the amp, and the Eminence sounds better in the ext cab. With the closed-back ext cab, the BJr sounds better than with either speaker in the amp, so I think that a closed-back ext cab is the way to go. Although, I think that the BJr III comes with an Eminence "Lightning Bolt" speaker which may sound better than the Eminence Gold Label that mine came with.

I got my brand new cab from GC for $250 with some kind of coupon from their website. They didn't have one in stock, so I ordered it and had it shipped free to my house.

Thanks Shimmilou. Local GC only had floor models, so I have one on order. I really liked the tele spank I got in the store. Now I can't wait to play with the amp at home. I plan on taking a litle while to get used to the amp before I explore an extension cab or speaker swap.

Cool! Good idea to take some time with the amp, give the speaker time to break in. Can't wait to hear your thoughts after you get it and play for awhile.
