I'm guessing that the OP got his amp fixed, set the volume on 9 again to test, and is now currently catching up with the Voyager probes after being blasted out into space.

That's because it is NOT a Twin Reverb, it is a Twin. I'm not sure why people have trouble with this. :?

There are Twins, and there are Twin Reverbs. There are Deluxes and there are Deluxe Reverbs. There are Princetons and there are Princeton Reverbs. Get it?

Shimmilou... Are you dense, or do you just act that way?

Fenderguy1 - "Lets make a new Twin amp! It'll have REVERB! We'll call it the "Twin!!!!"
Fenderguy2 - "OK"
Fenderguy1 - "Lets make another Twin amp with REVERB!We'll call it the "Twin Reverb!!!"
Fenderguy2 - "OK"
Fenderguy2 - "Ummm... BOTH Amps, are Twins, and have BOTH reverb??"
Fenderguy2 - "But were only calling ONE of them, the "Twin Reverb"...the other is just "Twin"?... If they BOTH have reverb, wont that inconsistent naming convention cause some confusion with our customers?"
Fenderguy1 - "Not at all...decades from now an internet forum poster named SHIMMILOU will have it all figured out!!!"
Fenderguy2 - "What's an "internet""?

<end scene>

I see now my confusion was misplaced. YOU have it all figured out.

I searched elsewhere online and found what appeared to be a knowledgeable wiki page describing the Fender Twin...

The Fender Twin Reverb is considered a standard model for players seeking a clean sound, and it is especially known for the quality of its built-in spring reverb. All Twin Reverbs feature a solid-state rectifier.

...Hm. My Twin has a great spring reverb tank, solid state rectifier... but isnt called a Twin Reverb. Whatevs. Back to practice. Thanks!

Effects, channel switching, gain, power scaling, line out, effects loop, are all things that are on the various modern Twin models and not one of which is on the Twin reverb. The original Twins didn't even have reverb, and the earliest Twins were tube rectified. I could go on about the differences between these two very different types of amps, but if you don't get it by now.....

So here's what I get: Just because I expect that other people will recognize that naming a Twin with reverb a "Twin", while naming another Twin with reverb a "Twin Reverb" is arbitrary and meaningless, doesn't mean I should expect you to. Take care!!

When someone asks for help with a Twin, I refer to the correct schematic. If I referenced the schematic for a Twin Reverb, it would be very confusing and not much help at all.

Think about it anyway that makes you happy, and try not to get your panties in a bunch when others know what they are talking about and you are confused.

"other people" didn't name them. Fender did, as evidenced by the link I provided. Those of us that provide information in this forum will use the correct names and schematics as shimmilou stated.

Sure! Ok. Lets try again. Blue, the link you posted did not answer my question, so I'll try to ask as plainly and clearly as I can. Im not saying this to be a wiseacre, but because Shimmilou and I have gone around this 10 times now, and all we are is POd at each other. So here goes:

I understand that there are many kinds of Fender Twins. Tweed, Blackface, Silverface, different years and models. I dont know how many models of Fender Twin Reverb there are, but I think there are more than the one.

So here's the question: If a Fender Twin Reverb is so named because it has a built in reverb tank... Why would you build a Fender Twin with a built in reverb tank, and NOT also call it a Twin Reverb?

Heres how Im thinking of it... Can you buy a Porsche 911 with a factory turbo installed from the factory thats NOT CALLED a Porsche 911 Turbo?

I suggest you go back to the link and actually READ the names of the amps that Fender built, then feel free to write to Fender for an explanation. Meanwhile, we will continue to refer to the amps as they are properly named.

Perhaps the gentleman should have Don Randall's body exhumed, re-animate him, then demand to know why he named the amps as he did. Forrest White might be able to shed some light on the topic as well......

Blue. Thank you for taking a second to answer my question, even when I didnt read more of the info you sent the first time. The site labels my Twin the "Evil Twin" which a couple of readers believe is the name used on the red knob version... regardless of the accuracy of that point there is more information to dig into and at the end of the day I can always go back to Fender. Called Gretsch about my Tennessee Rose two days ago and got my answer in less than 2 minutes from the time I started dialing. Anyhow... Thanks.

The "Evil Twin" moniker was never officially adopted or acknowledged by FMIC although it was applied to both amp models at various times and dealers frequently used it. Here, we generally accept that name when referencing the red-knob variant and the later blackface version (though technically, they are two significantly different designs).

Note that the nameplate on the front panel of the red knob Twin is "The Twin". This caused the grammatical quirk of referring to this amp as the "The Twin". See "The Soul Of Tone" by Tom Wheeler.

The name plate on the amp known as the "Evil Twin" is simply "Twin Amp".

Both amps have reverbs and two speakers. Neither amp is a "Twin Reverb"

Are we done now?
