If anyone out there has one of these in their chain, how have you solved the hiss issue with tube amps or do you have the same problem? It is the only pedal I have that hisses when I stick it in the chain and play it through my tube amps. Hooked up in front of a solid state amp or my pa no hiss. I have tried different power supplies and with just the battery, no dice, it hisses like a cobra in heat...

You could try the Carl Martin pedal here :

It's been working quite well for me.

Good luck!

Yep -- My RC3 does the same thing.

I get less noise if it's the only thing in the chain. I have also used the BOSS adapter only in the rig while the pedal board has DC Brick.

I have not found a good solution either.

So - I just don't use it much at all.

I haven't really noticed any extra hiss with the RC-3 with my tube amp. Although it's a Mesa Boogie Maverick and not an extrememly quiet amp. I use in in the effects loop, maybe that makes a difference. I actually use it much more often with my Mustang amp, often just sending its output to the aux input. I don't really notice any hiss there either.

I spoke with a guy called Chris at Boss on 323-890-3740. He had never heard of this problem, and is looking into it. Please call him and let him know that this is a real problem with tube amps, because it sounded like he didn't really believe me.

??? Funny. The RC-3 does this also with my Princeton Reverb. It's not dramatic, but it's there. I think it's because of increased contact resistance.

Cheers

David

I have a RC-20 and was thinking of upping to a RC-30, this thread makes me worry about doing so a bit!

The RC-20 works fine with my tube amps, it was a nightmare to get it to work with a modeling amp.
Even with the output dialed almost the way down it was still over driving the modeler in a bad way.

I have an RC-50 bought in 2004 and have never experienced that problem. It may be a flaw relegated to the RC-3. Here are some things to check that can help narrow your search for the problem: What is the level set at on the RC-3? and Where is it placed in the signal chain? and Does your FX loop have send and/or return level controls?

I have an RC-2 and don't have any hiss when using it with my Blues Jr. or Champ 600.

needless to say... i had the same problem with my rc-3, i have quite a long chain and it would make noise similar to a cell phone when loading or writing to memory and a tick when ever the tempo led flashes, i use the rc-3 as the last pedal in my chain and have sorted out the hissing noise compleatly by plugging it into a seperate 1000 milli amp boss filterd powersupply... works fine for me...

as the saying goes... when in doubt... go bigger... i think a bigger powersupply is the answer...
