Hi!

I use my Fender Champion 600 for both Guitar and Vocals simultaneously. Usually I conect a Dynamic mic on the High Input and the Guitar on the Low input.

But Guitar volume is louder than voice volume.

My question is: Would it be ok to place a mic preamp (like the behringer MIC100) going into the guitar input on the Champion 600?

I got confused about it because this way I'll have two preamps. The Mic preamp going into the amp preamp...

Thanks for any help.

Hi bluesoverdrive,

No problem, that's what it is for (one use anyway), as long as the output of the mic preamp isn't too hot. Basically a pedal is a preamp too, some can be adjusted too hot and cause the amp to squeal. I have used my POD as an input to the C600 (basically a preamp), and I can adjust the volume on the POD too high, then the amp squeals. When you use both inputs of the amp at the same time, they are no longer "High" and "Low", they become equal. When used one at a time, the "High" input has less resistance, so an instrument will sound louder when plugged in there.

However, using both at the same time on the same amp, could easily interfere with each others sound, and neither will sound good. But, if you like it..... 8)

Thanks for your help, very well explained :)
I may try one of those Behringer Valve mic pre-amps for the Champion 600.

Their manual says that the pre-amp should be placed before a power amp (Amp with a line in input i guess), but does not say anything about a signal chain like mic preamp -> amp preamp -> amp poweramp.

About having the guitar and mic at the same time on the Champion is quite acceptable for home practice.

Consider that adding this mic preamp before the amp, is similar to adding another tube to the amp's preamp circuit (another gain stage), and as you can see, some amps have one preamp tube, some have two, four, etc.

Adding another preamp gain stage to the C600 should work quite well, just don't crank the level up too high on the mic preamp and you're golden.

I'd plug that little puppy into a larger speaker cabinet. There's only so much you'll bet out of the tiny stock speaker. Plus that little amp will positively sing through a 10" or 12" Speaker.

Just did it! I bought a 2x12" Bugera Vintage, it is awesome the great tones out of the little champion. Quite loud too!

The big question is "does it sound good" if it does it's probably not stressing either the amplifier or the speaker...

I like the other answers given, but I've quite often taken a small mixer and put it in between my mic, guitar and amp... especially when were on a gig too small to bring out the PA gear....

Once again, you'll be able to tell it you're over driving the amp by listening for distortion in a clean input.

The chain I'd suggest is Mic>(preamp)>mixer>amp AND guitar>pedal>mixer>amp.

That gives you control of both sides, keeps the input the the amp clean, and should give you your best tone...

Just remember that "clipping" occurs when you put too much input into the amp... and what is essentially DC current is fed to the speaker... that's an Ungood Thing!!!
