Hey guys,

In 2008 I bought a fender Superchamp XD and loved it. However I've had a problem with it since 2009. The issue is that sometimes when I turn it on it doesn't react to my instrument. The big red lamp glows and there is a low electrical humming in the background but there is no response to my guitar whatsoever. Even putting the volume on the amp to max doesn't change the volume of hum or anything. Sometimes it solves itself by turning the amp on and off a few times but now I have not been able to get it working for some weeks.

Interesting detail is that the small red lamp(that indicates that channel 2 is on) does not glow when the amp is malfunctioning(so that is how i can tell if it is working or not).

Any ideas guys?

Time for warranty service, methinks.

Yo-yo-yo, markymark, I'll second that, check for warranty. 5-year?

Did you try another instrument cable, another guitar, or otherwise test both? And, make sure that the amps tubes are firmly seated in their sockets.

When you say "sometimes", meaning intermittent, that indicates a bad or loose connection somewhere, typically bad solder joints.

Yeah I've thought about that, but the thingy is that i bought it from germany and I live in sweden. I read a little bit on fender.com and it seems as if they want me to contact my local fender dealer..
I've sent a mail to my "dealer" tonight but I doubt I'll get a response since I didn't buy it from Them. When I went to a store back when the issue was new I got the reply from the guy there "that's why you shouldn't buy from germany"....he sure knew how to treat a customer(I bought my first guitar there back in the days)

Thanks for the replies and I'll let you know how it goes..

As long as it is an Authorized Service Center for Fender, it shouldn't matter where you bought the amp, Fender is the one paying for them to fix it (if it is a warranty problem). Make sure to have your receipt showing purchase date and you should be fine. (or so the Germans would have us believe  ) :)

It's possible that the warranty stipulations and terms of coverage are different across the puddle -- what we know and have here in the US may not necessarily be extant in Europe.

Just saying......

Well I didn't get an answer to the email I sent last week but this noon I called another store and they told me the warranty is one(!) year. So they suggested me to turn it in to them so they can try to repair it, for a fee of course. dammit

You might want to try one easy trick, before heading down to get that thing fixed. Pull each tube and spray a LITTLE contact cleaner on the pins and socket. Insert the tube as straight as possible (try not to rock it too much). Now, the tech secret "handshake" trick. Pull the tube back out of the socket and re-insert. This helps seat the pins to the socket's tangs. For some reason, the second insertion does the deed.

You may have a hinky contact between one of the pins (like the singal grid) and the socket. I like Caig Deoxit D5. Worth a try anyhow.

HTH. Good luck!

Even if the tubes are glowing when then amp is on?
The guy I talked to hinted that it might be something wrong with the "head/preamp" (the superchamp xd is a combo amp, but the "head/preamp" function part of it).
