Yeah, on the video it does sound little muddy.
I must add, the volume was lower than normal to try to
keep the recording to clip.
The cleans open up nicely when I crank the volume and lower
the gain.
I tried the ts808 in front and it sounded really nice,
especially using it as a clean boost.
I'll have to try the BD 2 , it has a great distortion,
This might work a little better.

The drive did sound a little muddy, and I'm thinking it's the recording. My Rebel 20's distortion isn't muddy at all and actually very musical sounding and articulate with great note definition.

I am a huge fender fan, I still would like to get my hands
On a older DRRI, perhaps a silverface. But on my own terms
not any time soon, I'll take my time and look for one.
I almost bought the humboldt fsr fender blues jr.Coach Purses

Yeah, I like his interest in a silverface DRRI. Those are quite rare, especially since there aren't any reissue Deluxe Reverbs in silverface.

   :!: You know what, I went down to the music store yesterday and I really didn't realize how many Egnater's they had on display. When I started messing around with the Rebel 30 things began to get really interesting. I have been banging my head around for months trying to figure out my next amp, and now I know. I have got to get a Reble 30. As soon as I get it, I will be back with the review and pics.

Well, yesterday I pulled the trigger on a Tweaker 40 w/ the 2x12 Cab from Sweetwater. Got a really good deal. It should be here by Tuesday. Will post pics when I get that baby in, plus a quick review. I'm out!
11/19/2011: I got my Tweaker 40 this past Tuesday, but was not able to play it until late last night, due to all my guitars being under repair. I can't give a decent review on because I really couldn't open her up, but at low volumes she still sounds like a f*$+%ing Singing Mermaid.

Now I'm gonna go JAM! Peace Bro's... 8)

Good choice, byooboy. The Tweaker 40 is sure what I'd be using if I was out playing live (I'm only engaged in recording, so my Rebel 20 with a Line6 M13 in the loop does everything).

Ive owned a 15watt one, and playd the 44 watt. It is a great amp, and good that it has 2 channels, i wish the 15 watt did. Or at the very least, have a foot switch for the gain boost. Personally, I rather have a singel channel with a gain boost instead of 2 channel. 2 Channels tend to use clipping circuits like in an overdrive pedal for the distortion, whereas a singel channel with a boost is just boosting the signal to the preamp, so the distortion is really coming from the tubes.

anyways, i wanted to comment, that while I really like the tone of the 44, all things being equal (volume wise), they sound different from one another. Of course, anytime you change anything on an amp, or pedal, from the tubes, to adding tubes, even the type of hookup wire will slightly change the tone.

BUt it still sounds like an Egnater. i think they have a distinct tone, even when using them in Fender or Marshall mode, they sound like an Egnater, which is a good thing to me because i like th egnater tone. Its good they used a different type of effects loop. That was my biggest complaint on the tweaker (and the Rebels); they use a serial effects loop w/out a line level. So if you use the amps preamp for distortion, pedals like analog delay and chorus'; when you turn them on, you loose all the top end, and the tone gets flabby. I think they may have corrected this later. I used a MXR 10-band Eq, and used the Gain and Vol slider to mitigate the tone loss.

Personally I have no use for the effects loop in my Rebel 20 but, the Egnater Rebel 20 has a Buffer Effects loop. I tried it with a BYOC digital reverb that I built and my old trusty Ibanez digital delay, and didn't lose any top end at all and my tone never suffered. I know not all effects work with all loops. That could be the problem. None of my older gear ever had a loop and I'd rather find the effect order that I like and use them that way. I'm pretty old school.

I know on the older Rebels, Bruce Egnater had a "Loop Mod" available. I'm not sure what that was all about.

You wouldn't have heard what I'm talking about with a BYOC Reverb(a company btw, that got me start2e in building fx pedals, started there, went to breadboards, now point 2 point, & I build a couple pedals that I sell many of so I get the baords printed 4 me. But byoc is a wau to get a $400 pedal for less than $100, & they use qualityh components), & you wouldn't hear it on a digital delay, only analgo, and mostly C.Copys, Auqua $@!&, and many analog bucket brigade modulatione effects. Like I said, it I use a fizz or ristortion pedal for my dirt, and leave the preamp gain down to a reasonable level, I don't hear it either. Its when you use tghe amps gain that you hear the tone loss. And we're not talking "the tonal difference between maple/rosewood", where some hear it some dont., in this case if you can't hear it, you NEED to get your hearing checked., its that noticeable.

I checked the Tweaker 44, itwont have that problem, the loop is designed different. I guess if you have one of those early Rebels or Tweakers, u can send it in and. They'll install a switch the adjusts the line level -4/+10 totake care of the issue.

As for loopsh themselves, I have amps without them and for straight blues/rock I love them. But once I start adding delay, EQ pedals, volume and others, its invaluable, especially w/delay. I don't want the delay happening BEFORE the signal gets clipped and overdrives, I find it muddy and unpleasant, I want it after. If youre getting all your dirt from pedals, then you can do wuthout loops, because you can put the delay pedal after the OD,Fuzz or Distortion, but if you use them amps gain for dirt, you can't, the delay willalways be before the OD. Modulation can go either way, heavy modulation pedals like old Boss CE2 chorus, or flangers I like in front of the amp, especially CE2s. They have that very mild mid hump, so I find they actually drive the front of theamp in a very pleasing way, same with the flange. It doesn't drive2 it hare, more loike the way the Xotic EP Booster does, I set my E(p to boost only 3 or 4 decibels, the ce2 drives in much gthe same way, but with chorus.

But with more transparent mmodulation: like I use a MXR Stereo Chorus and a HBE Frostbite Flanger(which can be a heavy modulation, but I don't set it that way), I want them in the loop. If you think about it; the preamps job is 2 take an electric signal and turn it into an audible signal that the power amp makes louder so we can hear it come out of the speaker. By its verynature it colors evgerything that passes through it. With my guitar, or dirt & things like that, I want that to happen. But with my time based effects likedelay, I don't want it colored, I want it sounding true.

Both seriel and parallel loops have their benefits and drawbacks, some pedals work great in loops wired in series, but will sound week in a parallel. Some fx that sound great in parallel will get clipped in a series loop.

I place my compressor and Zendrive ahead of the preamp, and use my M13 for time-based effects (delay, chorus, flange, verb, etc). The effects loops in the Rebel 20 now incorporates the "mod" that many applied to the earliest design, and I can attest to the fact that it is quiet, robust and is expertly buffered. It works great.

And I must say that one day I was driving the pre with both the Tone Press and Zendrive, and accidentally engaged one of the M13's overdrives, and the resulting OD tone was absolutely breathtaking and a total gas to play. If you've got an extra OD around, give it a try.
