Amp was made in 90/91 and came in a combo head, chorus head, pro head versions with matching speaker cabinets. This model was remoleded with black covering and black knobs from 92. It was marked as thier heavy metal type amp.

According to John Morrished book "The Fender Amp Book"..."It was an unashamedly a solid state amp prominsing, in addition to an attempt at a tradintional Fender sound, the most radical distortion of any amplifier on the Market". I guess the new Fender knew how to sling the BS with the best of them. The amp spawned a low powered trio, the R.A.D, H.O.T, and J.A.M in which tradition rotary controls were complemented by push-buttons giving instand access to pre-programmed levels of distorion. These were not purist amps.

The Price list from June of 1990 shows the M-80 at 90 Watts, 12" Fender special design speaker, gain switching, reverb, footswitch, and effects loop and sold for $399. It's Fender Item number was 22-5900.

Seems like some of the "New" items on solid state amps could trace some of thier lineage to these and the other "Fast Four" which were Fenders first sucessful range of Solid State Amps that sold well.

FWIW

No thanks necessary, that's what this forum is for. I can't tell you how much I have learned on here. I had a pretty good library of Fender books, and have played Fender gear for 35+ years, and I am always learning something new here.

If you ever run across John Morrishes book "The Fender Amp Book" buy it. It has a very good section of some of the "New" FMIC stuff on up. It also has a very nice reference section on the different Fender amps and when they were made, wattage, speaker config, tube types, etc. Highly recommended.

I also just picked up a new Fender book at Border "Going out of Business Sale" called "The Fender Electric Guitar Book, by Tony Bacon and it has a great reference section in back of when each of the Fender guitars was manufactured, including the Japanese and MIM Models. Also Highly recommended for reference material.
