Can anyone compare the clean channel of a deluxe to that of the 65 reverbe 1x12.. also is the 65's 22 watts noticabley less than the 40 watts of the deville?? I am looking for something in between the deluxe and Jr. volume wise.. the numbers say that the 65 reverb should be good but i know how ratings can vary... any input would be awesome 8)

They are both fine amps. The 65 DRRI is your typical black face fender tone. On the bright side, deep tube reverb.

Not sure if you are referring to the blues deluxe or hot rod deluxe Either way, the deluxe at 40 watts (deville 60 watts) is more warm, though it has a hint of the tweed bassman to it. Solid state driven reverb is good, not blackface though. Definitely louder.

If you can, try out both before buying to hear the difference.

From my experiences with both, the Deluxe Reverb RI is a much more reliable amp. They sound worlds apart. You would have to try both to see what you like. There's a pretty big price gap too. For me, the DRRI cuts a bit better in a band situation. Again it's just me. I own a Hot Rod Deluxe, It's been in the shop a few times for bad solder joints and other issues. It's a great sounding amp, mines just not reliable. I know a lot of other owners of the HRDlx, 4 out of 6 had issues. Mines been good since the last repair. Some have no problems. It's a crap shoot. I borrow a DRRI. The DRRI has a bright cap in it. The louder you are the less bright it is. Some people clip the bright cap. I really don't see a reason to. Oh, the reverb is a lot better in the DRRI too. Try them both. Be sure to bring your guitar and crank them. That will tell the truth.

Wow - 63supro...it's kinda funny we have had opposite experiences. My Hot Rod Deluxe is over 10 years old and I have never had a moments problem with it. I had an original 65 deluxe reverb...for some reason I kept it for 30 years and sold it. Have to say, even though it was PT P, it gave me problems.

prolux, Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a bad sounding amp, I've been playing Fender amps since the early 60's. After a tube change I'm really happy with the sound of the amp. Your's is probably made in the US mine in Mexico. But that shouldn't really be an issue. I've had occasional problems relating to routine maintenance with ptp amps too. My 64 Vibrolux Reverb needed filter caps, but was seriously reliable for 20 years before that. My 76 SF Twin never saw a repair shop except for re-tube and biasing in the 30 years I've owned, and my little 74 Champ never saw a repair shop. Within a month and a half, my HRDlx needed to be repaired, not serviced due to faulty workmanship. Many of my friends bought them because they liked the way mine sounded, and had similar problems when gigged with. Tube sockets, etc. not due to mis-handling or abuse but due to the design flaw that allows the solder joints on the sockets to fracture.

After having it repaired the last time, it's been fine and sounds great. I'm glad it has a 5 year warranty, I just wish I didn't need to use it so often. I'm hoping with the new price increase, Fender addressed this problem.
