the replacement DRRI rattles alot decided to return for a full
Refund. :(

Lesson learned, never buy sight unseen or unplayed.
There is a guy on craigslist selling SRRI less than this amp.

Worth a look-see, BST.

8)

Sorry to hear about the replacement DRRI.

:(

I'm guessing that FMIC sent all its QA/QC personnel off for corporate "diversity training" the week that both of your amps were built.

I bought a ltd ed. DRRI that was just beautiful last summer. The store got two of them in. I had the same incessant rattle problem which you mentioned, and despite (wait for it...) 3 returns to have it repaired I always had the some problem recurring. Completely disappointed, I returned darn thing.

Turns out a store worker said the other one had the same problem. I wish I had the know-how and patience to have been able to fix it myself, but I don't.

If you can, try to find a used one that's around 10 years old. Believe it or not quality control did exist at one point in time.

Contrary to the hype, the DRRI suffers from the exact same problems as any modern mass-produced amp (solder joints, trem tick, reverb problems, etc). If any doubt about it just search for "DRRI" on this forum and see. The old adage applies to the DRRI as well as any modern amp, "They don't make 'em like they used too". IMO, if the DRRI sold as much as the number one selling Fender amp, it would be equally denounced for it's reliability issues, there just aren't anywhere near as many RIs out there. .

Mate, take the plunge, grab a tweed deluxe Tube Depot kit and build yourself a tweed deluxe 5e3, plug that HR62 into it and I promise you'll never look back. 8)

Now that sounds like an idea, or one that's already built.

You can do it, you just need a bit of soldering practice and take your time and follow the safety rules. You will bond with that amp like no other, you will learn so much, get immense satisfaction and the tone is awesome. It's a lifetime keeper.

There's two build threads on this forum you can follow,

Both of them fully documented with extremely well-detailed photographs and lengthy commentary from the old hands here on the forum.

Arjay's right, there's a lot of useful discussion and contribution from a few of the old hands in both the threads.

First Build Diary:
viewtopic.php?t=46716

Second Build Diary:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=53481

Anyway it's something to consider.

I'm not sure what kind of rattle you experienced... I went through a couple of DRRI that rattled, it turned out it was just that cheap Ruby rectifier, easy fix, no more rattles. My DRRI has been very solid, just needed to get rid of that cheap tube.

I've had mine for a month now. i.e. DRRI, not LE, I do notice a tremolo tick, but only because I read about it, & I had to turn the intensity all the way up to hear it, & it wasn't loud enough to bother me. At moderate intensity, I don't hear it. So far, so good. I see in the near future different tubes though.
