I've owned a few 6V6 powered amps before but none that I ever toyed around with. I have a nice set of EL84s to put into my new Rebel. I also have several sets of other tubes like 6L6 and EL34 but no 6V6s. Anyone care to make a suggestion? I don't mind spending a little money if something is worth it but there are limits.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

You can go the new production route and spend less, but for real quality while you can still find them, spend the extra and get NOS 6V6 made in the US of A tubes....there's plenty out there.
here's a link and there are others,I have bought tubes from Greg Levy,he has some good ones, check them out....give him a call for suggestions.

Out of all the 6V6 I tested in my DRRI nothing beats the RCAs. But the TADs are very close and have become my second favorite tubes.

+1

I'm using Motorola-branded gray-plate GE's in my '65 Princeton Reverb and my Spankmaster. They sound awesome.

I've been very happy with NOS Mazda 6V6 bottles from Mike Kropotkin at KCANOStubes.com.

He also has matched pairs of NOS Brimars, GE, RCA, JAN Sylvania, plus plenty of other great NOS bottles.

Great guy as well. Have bought from him since 2001 and will continue to use him to retune my amps, including my Showman I'll be outfitting soon.
