On the drive channel. It's like electronic wind (the outdoors kind).

I've only had it since I ran my echo unit through the amp. Could that have damaged the circuitry in some way? I used the effects loop.

The clean channel is fine.

It's an FM65R.

Hi Mark76,

As you may have guessed, solid state amps aren't very popular to work on. It could be any number of problems, and normally, a pedal wouldn't cause your amp to fail, but it is possible. If you are sure that the problem only is on the drive channel, and the clean channel is good, that would indicate that the output section of your amp is good, and the problem can be narrowed down to the "drive channel only" components. Here is the schematic (link below), dig in and start checking the components in the drive channel.

Does anything change when you insert both ends of an instrument cable into the loop, shorting the loop?

Nope. It still makes that horrible noise even if I have a cable in both sockets of the loop.

Welcome to Fender's FM line of amps. I had a very similar problem (although it was intermittent at first) with my old FM212R. I was never able to figure out the issue, so I fixed it simply, by deciding to never waste my time or money on a low end Fender amp again.
It is my opinion that the FM amps are complete garbage, and built like crap. I based that opinion on the fact that my own amp, and that of a friend both lasted less than 6 months; I can't speak on his treatment of his amp, but I'm certain it was nothing out of the ordinary, and I baby all of my gear. I've had a lot of people disagree with me, but I stand by my statement that the FM line of amps are cheaply built crap, I wouldn't take another if Fender offered to pay me to do so.

I think that is referring to a well known condition that afflicts single guys who haven't had a date in a very long time.
