Hi, i just got a brand new Hot rod Deville 2x12. When i tried to turn it on, there was no sound. I could hear the hum of the speaker, but not the noise when you plug the guitar cable into the input jack of the amp. I decided to take a look at the tubes, and found out that one of the three Groove tubes 12ax7 named Preamp Tube was a bit 'whiteish'. That's the reason why i get no sound? Im looking for another Groove Tubes ST-12ax7-r Preamp Tube to replace it, can anyone help me? am I in the right direction? Thank you all, Regards.

A "whiteish" tube generally indicates a loss of vacuum within the glass envelope. Such a tube will not function and must be replaced.

Take the amp back to the store from which you bought it and let them replace any defective tubes. The warranty provides you with some protection against faulty products.

Absolutely, check warranty.

Sometimes, call the store and explain, they have record of your purchase, and you might get a new tube sent to you. The amps weighs, what, 60 pounds?

53.5 pounds. The problem is that i bought it in USA but i live in Brazil. hehe

Probably what happened was not manufacturer's fault, these guys at the air company dont know how to handle fragile burden!

First email or call the seller and see if they will send you a new tube. Or, if you have a local supplier (or internet) for tubes, just about any brand/type of 12AX7 or ECC83 tube will work, and it may be cheaper and/or quicker for you to just get a new replacement yourself. Wouldn't hurt to get a few tubes while you are at it for spares if they are hard for you to find locally.

Here are a couple of good sources for tubes, I think that one or both ship to Brazil, check first.

For those unfamiliar with this discussion, here's what we refer to......

In this case, the damage was caused by rough handling during transit -- it was an Ebay sale and the seller neglected to remove the power tubes from the chassis to protect them before shipping the amp. Note the creamy "frosted" appearance at the top of the glass envelope. Pre-amp tubes with ruptured bottles will look similar to this.

Mercí, Stratele.

I don't think anybody's ever posted any pics of a broken bottle and I happened to have one handy.
