Be sure to budget for some routine maintenance and servicing as well.

Anytime I buy an old amp I have them cleaned up and gone over and anything repaired that need it. They deserve it.

Indeed.

It sounds like you're all set for when a suitable "target of opportunity" presents itself. Best of luck, let us know what you find.

I liked the SR tone better in your 2 clean examples myself. Of course they both sound good no doubt. 8) Two fine amps for sure!!

I love that SR tone! Specially with those CTS Alnicos in there... but my DRRI is the amp that leaves the house, even with the 15" in there it only weighs 46 lbs, way lighter than that SR!

Some fine playing there cedarblues!

Thank you sir!

So yeah my choice has been made, it's going to be a Super Reverb Reissue!

Only problem:

The SRRI i played belongs to a friend of mine and it's not for sale. I'll have to take it to the store when i'm buying mine to make sure it sounds as good as this one. Are there big differences between different copies in the SRRI's?

Good choice! 8)

There might be some differences in tone, depending on the tubes used and bias from the factory. As others mentioned, you need to give those Jensens time to break-in... you could always look for those sweet CTS and sell the Jensens  or even better, find a SF SR for about the same price as a new SRRI. I'm sure it's not as easy where you are, but it's worth a try.

There was a '68 drip-edge SR posted on CL few days ago, for about $1200, and saw a couple more posted the past month or two... they're out there if you keep looking. I got mine for $700, very clean 73!

You want a pre-74 SR, plenty under $1k out there...

something like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Super-Reverb-1971-AB763-100-ORIGINAL-/260825442198?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cba686796#ht_1783wt_1155

or this

Both have CTS speakers.

+1

The pre-MV versions are preferred and anything beyond '77 will be the ultra-linear chassis which isn't really even a Super Reverb at all. The tone stacks (both channels) resemble a Twin Reverb in layout and the tube rectifier was deleted in favor of a solid-state diode array (also similar to the TR). They're not "bad" amps......they just don't sound like a Super Reverb.

Check out the completed listings on ebay... that '69 hasn't sold for the asking price

http://cgi.ebay.com/1969-FENDER-SUPER-REVERB-AMPLIFIER-/130545273857?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e651acc01#ht_720wt_1155

You might contact the seller with your best offer, $850 for example, he might accept...

It's a nice one.

Shuck those lava-lamp era casters though -- they went out decades back, along with avocado-colored appliances, shag carpeting, and platform shoes.

My grandparent's house was like that, built in '67,coppertone appliances, pecan paneling, and royal blue shag carpet.
OTH that '69 SR looked good,on the outside, who knows what is under the hood...but that can be remedied if altered too much.

Indeed......cosmetically, that 69's a cherry.

Some basic maintenance and perhaps some backdating to take it from AB568 to the original AB763 configuration and it'll be a fine rig.
