I'm sure this topic has been done to death already and if so, please send me a link to the discussion(s)....

I have a BJ III and was wondering what would be good baseline settings when using an overdrive pedal such as a BD-2? I'm playing a Deluxe Strat HSS through it.

Thanks!

My advice - experiment away. Try it with your amp set up clean, and the bD2 as a boost or as a overdrive; the interaction between your amp and pedal settings will yield almost unlimited different results.

The other thing is only you know what tone you like, so get on to twiddling the knobs on your amp and pedal and decide for yourself what you like.

Yep, the best setting is the one that sounds good to you, not me. The knobs on your amp are designed to be turned so start twisting them. :D

Your ear is the best judge....
I use a Blues Jr. in my setup..
Here is a link to my current effect settings and amp settings....

I have a C-Rex loaded in the Blues Jr. and a 1x12 C-Rex in an ext hooked up to it, so it sounds a lot different without the ext. hooked up, and a lot different than just a stock speaker..

I use EQ pedals to fine tune my tone...

I am using a Players Deluxe Strat with Vintage noiseless, Blacktop Strat and a Standard Tele through these pedals..

Might give you a little reference, but let your ear be the judge...
I always go for no ice pick, thick tone with sustain and good dynamics...

I found a quote from here that I liked a lot...

Somebody mentioned B.B.King the other day as using a SS amp.
A guy told me one time he played a venue at the same time as B.B. and couldn't wait to ask him how he got "that tone",B.B. just replied,"I turns my amp all the way up."

Some good info here http://home.comcast.net/~jroscoe/index2.html

I agree. Playing style, pickups, guitar even cords will make a huge difference. Looks like you have some experimenting to do. Don't forget, your guitar's volume/tone knobs have a bearing on it too. I would start just by cranking the amp and playing with the guitars tone and volume controls. You may find you don't even need a pedal with the wattage you're running.
