Just received a new Super-Sonic 22 in the factory sealed box 2 hours ago.

Checked it out and it was great. Played for about 15 minutes. Turned it off and ran out. Came back later, turned it on, now the reverb doesn't work and it's humming 60 cycles loudly.

I fiddled with the RCA cables and the reverb input at the chassis as well as the reverb tube, but nothing. All I get is more hum when I turn up the reverb knob.

Any ideas?

Reverb may be dead, but is the warranty still alive?

+1

Return it for exchange or refund.

FIXED....the RCA cable from the tank to the amp was bad. Just glad it wasn't something more serious.

It sounds like those darn RCA cables are plugged into the reverb tank after quality control of the amp !!!

It gives one pause to ruminate over what else QC/QA may have neglected......

QC does seem to be lacking on Fender's amps these days... I hope their guitars aren't suffering the same fate.

Big time. They scared me off of new Fender amps for good.

And it's heartwrenching for a die-hard Fender fan like me to say that.

:(

I know the HRDx, etc seem to have a bad quality rap, but the Pro Jr. I had was anything but a problem...Never failed me and I loved the tone it produce when cranked up. I did end up selling it, but it never gave me a single problem and only got rid of it because I finally found the right speaker for my '64 Princeton and fell back in love with it's blackface tone!

I posted my thoughts on the QC over at TGP. Comparing this SS22 to my 2-3 year old SS60 is interesting. Both amps cost me just over 1k, and the SS60 v1 definitely presents itself like an amp worth $1,000 or more, while the SS22 seems like it should be in the sub $700 range.

I'm just basing this on observations about the quality of materials, accessories, and workmanship that i see present between these 2 similarly priced devices.

BUT...the SS22 sounds much sweeter and is more useable in my opinion.

I'll head over to TGP to read your review... I had a 60W, loved the tones but it was just too loud. Clean channels almost unusable for drive of any kind. I was hoping someone who owned both would do a side-by-side.

The problem I have with the Pro Jr is it sounds so boxy to me it drives me nuts. My buddy has one and when you put it through a bigger cabinet it really shines, I won't sacrifice tone for size and weight. Even my 74 Champ doesn't sound boxy like that. IMO A smaller speaker in a bigger cabinet almost always sounds better than a bigger speaker crammed in a tiny cabinet. The old Champ also has way better electronic components which help the tone too. I've had my Champ for over twenty years and it's never seen a shop and I've never had to repair it myself. I use it almost daily ans always have.
