I have a Fender Frontman 212r as well..I did a speaker swap and put two Texas Heats in it..I think it sounds a lot better now than with the stock speakers. I have been pondering on getting a tube compressor for it to give it a little more warmth. Maybe the EH Black Finger. I find that using an EQ pedal helps out on the tone of the amp as well. I have it just for a backup amp and currently have a friend of mine that plays a lot of metal breaking in the Texas Heats for me...I figure after about six months of that it should play the blues a lot better...

I have read some good things about the Laney amps on gilmourish.com and I have been getting pretty warm about the Laney Cub Head and you can knock it down to .75 watts for recording or jamming at low levels. I am currently using a Vibro Champ XD for most of my tracks and it gives me the thick tone I want in my headphones. It hums though and I have yet to find out why. I have it plugged into a $300.00 ac line filter and it still hums. All of my other amps and stuff do not hum, so I guess it just the way it is. Really cannot hear the hum in my mixes, so it is working for now..

Personally if I were you I would keep the Frontman as a backup.. I have played my classical acoustic electric through my Frontman and got over the drums and my buddy's peavy classic with 4-10's pretty well...I did not face the amp with the guitar's sound hole. That would have probably caused a nuclear meltdown or something similar...

i got the laney anyway, still have the FM but i am selling it... mots times on stage ill have my amps mic'd up anyway so i can get away with running the laney as a bak up and the laney sounds pretty damn sweet, over heated it a bit the first time i used it... (was pupming it hard) but i got it for almost nothing so its my lil bash around...
