I know so many who rave about this amp and the amazing tone quality it has. However, one of the lacks is that it is not loud enough. Is there a chance of putting a 30 watt version out there?

There's already a 40 watt version with just a few more control knobs on it and housed in a slightly bigger cabinet. It's call the Blues Deluxe.

Here, take a look!!

http://www.fender.com/products/hotrod/models.php?prodNo=223220

Done.

6L6GC's sound nothing like EL84's.

It's called Jr. for a reason

If you want 30 or 50 W version look at the Peavey Classic series or Delta Blues.

Yes, Peavey Classic 30 would fit the bill very nicely......or just get another BJr (2 x 15 watts = 30 watts).

+1 Not even close. I'm surprised they didn't go with either 6V6 in the Jr or EL34's in the Blues Deluxe. I can hear a pretty distinct difference between the 6V6 and EL84 power tubes in my Egnater at higher volumes. There's magic at 12:00 on the tube mix dial.
EL84's are like the anti Fender as far as the "Classic Fender Sound" goes.

Yah, I know. I was going for a "string the new guy along" approach and forgot where I was. We've been doing that a bunch at work lately and the behavior kinda spilled over. Moment of weakness. However, in a more serious natured repsonse to the OP, there's been a number of threads lately talking about running multiple amps at once. A couple of BJs would be 30 watts and 2 twelves.....

Something to consider?

It's like the old Musicmaster Bass amp fiasco of 1970. The first editions were powered by 6AQ5's (a not-so-distant relative to the EL84). There were overheating and biasing issues and the amp simply did not sound like a Fender. FMI engineers (to their credit) re-designed the final-drive stage around the more familiar pair of 6V6GT's which made the amp palatable to the buying public. The updated amp remained as a cataloged item for nearly a decade.

Maybe they went with EL84s as the DR has 6V6s and is very close in power. The BJr with 6V6s would be a cheaper alternative, and probably sound too similar to, a DR. Plus Fender doesn't really have many amps with EL84s (two?), this is something different for those who like the EL84s, maybe a little competition for Vox?

You guys would probably still knock it even with 6V6s. (JK!)

There are conversion kits to put octal sockets in the BJr for 6V6, or even 6L6 if used with a new power tranny. Anyone here tried this? Sounds interesting. :)

Just buy a second BJ..two 15w in stereo is much better than one 30 w in mono. if you are stuck on the EL84 (I really don't think there is a difference between EL84 vs 6L6 unless cranked way out to 10....the speaker and size of cabinet and tone stack influences this a lot more than the power tubes ), then 6L6 to EL84 converter like yellow jacket with the Hot Rod deluxe could be the other option. I don't think Fender likes the tone from the BJ that much to launch a 30w version of it....

I don't think a Blues Jr could sound like a DR even with 6V6 power tubes just by design. Cabinet size has a lot to do with it too. The BJr always sounded boxy and kazoo like to me. Run it through an external cabinet and it's a whole different beast.

Also the Peavey Delta Blues. It has 4 el84s, 2 channels, fx loop, Reverb & Tremolo, foot switchable. IMO the 1x15" sounds richer than the 2x10". If I wanted a 30w,w/el84s, this would be on my short list.

Well, I did it. First time in a long time I've allowed myself to succumb to GAS. I promised myself I wouldn't buy a new amp until I sold my BJ but well, you know ....

Anyway I ordered an Egnator Rebel 20 head and two Rebel 112 cabinets yesterday. They say the order will be in and ready for delivery by the time I get back home from this job. (about a week) So now I am fairly well motivated to sell the BJ with BillM mods. Guess I'll be reducing my asking price a bit. I'll post pics once I get the Rebel rig home.

BMW-KTM, give the speakers some time to break in. One of our old former members (SlapChop) in now an Egnater Artist. He's an extremely talented individual. He's had the Rebel 20 head longer than I have, but just bought the cabinet and he's floored with it. He was running an Avatar open back cab. I checked the bias on mine when I first got it and it was dead on. Each set of power tubes has it's own bias test sockets with the recommended settings printed on the board. I think you'll have some fun with it.

I run two cabs all the time now and for me anyway the rig is awesome.

This is cool BMW-KTM! Whenever someone on the forum (or in real life  ) is getting/gets a new amp, I feel that I'm also getting a new amp by proxy, the anticipation, the expectations........happy for you. :D

You know that we expect a full report; stock tube types, bias, sound, the full magoo, including a pic or few......right? 8)
