i had it at volume 4/5 sounded great, however its not as loud as the other one i had.
could it be the bias is set low?

im gonna check the bias, tomorrow. what should GT 6v6s fenders be set at?

btw the hr 62 is amazing....

I'd hook-shot those GT's into the nearest convenient dumpster and install a pair of TAD's or EHX's then bias them to spec. Pickup some JJ or NOS pre-amp tubes and you'll be off to the races.

Congrats on your new amp! Doesn't the FSR come with an alnico P12Q? The DRRI comes with a ceramic C12K, so it could be that...

If you compare the 2 speakers...

C12K is 100 W 99.1 dB
P12Q is 40 W 95 dB

So if that's the speaker in your amp that explains the volume difference.

Thanks guys, the one thing that really stands out is how
Clear it sounds. And how light it is, alot lighter than the black
Tolex one.
Yeah it could be that. However normal volumes are now 5/6.

Lighter? Interesting... you'd think the Alnico is heavier. Must be that special color

Just checked the weight... you're right! The P12Q is 5.5 lbs lighter!

Likely, contemporary alnico now contains more aluminum with less nickel and less cobalt.

I wonder how that affects the tone...

BTW, I stopped at GC yesterday, I noticed a brand new DRRI on the floor... so I plugged in just to check it out and it sounded like $@!! Reverb didn't exist, had to turn it to 10 to get a bit of reverb. So I looked in the back to check the tubes and to my surprise I see a cage around the power tubes and rectifier, WTF?? When did they add this? There were two screws in the top back panel keeping the cage in place.

I have no idea why they put an amp out that sounds so bad for people to test drive, how do they expect to sell 'em if they sound like crap?? This amp is brand new! It wasn't on the floor couple weeks ago. I'm sure whatever tubes in there are to blame...

It doesn't matter what they sound like so long as little Johnny doesn't burn his tootsies when trying to swap in some tubes that work.

What a great amp. I love the color scheme on that, and it being a Deluxe Reverb on top of it just makes your life all that much better!

Enjoy the amp and finding the right speaker is always a fun hunt!

Hi,
I have the exact same amp as you and its now the subject of this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=58531

Basically in my amp Fender have dropped the opto circuit and installed a 2nd PCB with ICs to control the Tremolo - do you know if that is how your one is setup inside?
Also my one does have a little cage thing around the Power tubes as well.

It seems like they are taking advantage of their right to alter specs as they like.
On the other hand when its working it really is an awesome tone isnt it! - Congrats.

This must be a new "upgrade" for 2011, my DRRI is from 2010 and didn't come with a cage... I'm not sure if Fender put that cage in the DR before, never noticed it before. Why after 45+ years of DR production??

To keep product-liability lawyers from having to line up at Salvation Army soup kitchens.
