I have a fender M80 that I got for free. i love the thing. however, it has taken me forever to find anything useful about it. I recently played a gig and wasn't happy with the amp's distortion so i decided to experiment with some distortion pedals. No luck, but I just now realized that when i plug into input 2 [I have only really used input 1, assuming that the inputs were simply used for stereo effects] and suddenly the sound wasn't as over powering as before. In fact the distortion channel is nearly worthless on that input and the clean channel was suddenly workable. I know this sounds stupid and ignorant, but I do need some help with this sucker. I love this amp, but it is a beast to work with without any sort of knowledge base outside of noodling.
Does someone know where I can get some useful information, or perhaps a user's manual on this amp?

That's a pretty old amp IIRC -- from the mid/late '80s. You might check the reviews (if any) at Harmony Central or The Gear Page.

AMD - I've got a 6 page PDF owner's manual for the M-80 series...believe the good folks at Fender support e-mailed me a copy within a couple of days of my request.
Input #2 is a lower impedance/lower sensitivity input, good for active (or just high output) pickups....will darken standard pickups. Most amps with 2 inputs tend to buffer the 2nd input by at least 6db.
Even Fender lovers (I cut my teeth in the early 70s on a '65 Deluxe Black Face) realize that their old solid state distortions were unusable to most gigging musicians...I stick with that GORGEOUS s/s Clean channel, and put a pedal board into input 1. You may do okay with the effect loop for modulation/tone/delay etc., but you want your drive/distortion inserted before the pre-amp.

I'm currently running mine into an old Peavey TNT 100 cab (single 15") ...rich, rich bass....makes my humbuckers sound like Jimi's single coils with no effect pedals at all.

If you have no success with Fender support, PM or e-mail me and I'll shoot you the PDF.
