I just purchased a new Super Sonic, and noticed a constant hissing sound, regardless of what channel I'm on, gain settings, etc. It's not horribly bad, but it's there. Is this to be expected? Is it just a noisy amp in general?

Thanks.

Mine has a constant hum and hiss at my house. I took it next door and it was dead quiet.

I have a lot of dimmers.

This evening, I'll be using it at a different location than my house, and see how it does.

Thanks for replying.

Mine has the same issue. It makes a "pschiiiiiiiiiii" thrue the speaker when nothing is plugged and all knobs turn to zero.
I know that it exists dead quiet super-sonic. I have taken mine to a technician but he hasn't found a solution.
He says that it comes from the V5B stage...
If Fender could give me advices to look for the problem it will be nice.

Mine makes all kinds of weird noises from hissing to popping to buzzing. Of course, I take it in for warrantee work and they can't reproduce the sounds - at least it cost me $50.00 for them to find NOTHING! :(

Mine has a horrible buzz when the Effects are turned on - no matter what is running through it - an effects unit, or just a lead to use the channel as a boost. It also pops when turning the effects on or off - sometimes LOUD sometimes quiet, no matter where the location.

It's pretty disappointing considering this thing cost me about $3.5k all up with the speaker cabinet (Australia, yay for overpriced gear!).

Tap on all the preamp tubes with a pencil until you find the bad tube. I have seen several of the super sonics have a bad preamp tube from the factory.

I'm new to this so how will I know which one is the bad one? (the pencil will explode or something? :P)

I have the exact same hissing problem. I can tap some of the tubes and reproduce the sound which seems to point bad tubes or tube socket problems but with everyone having the same problem I would think that Fender would maybe do something. Any help would be appreciated. It happens right in the middle of my song during a gig and I have to just stop.

Thanks,
Bo

If taping a tube makes noise just replace the tube with a brand new one.
If you have no noise after that you are lucky.
I have replaced all the tube except the 12AT7..but all have been tested and good and the hiss is always there.
The technician has changed many resistor with brand new metallic...and it changes nothing. Hopfully for me the send effects is totally quiet..so i connect the send in the poweramp in and plug a jack in the return of the loop to activate it and i've got a great sound with no hiss, but i lost the reverb.
I have tried to deconnect the reverb tank...but the hiss is always here so it doesn't come from the reverb circuit.
I am afraid that it comes from a bad pcb.
