I'm wondering who has some inside info. I saw Super Champs on clearance at 2 GC's in the Seattle area. I actually picked one up myself. They were on sale for $249. are they being discontinued? replaced?

Just wondering.

I am wondering if maybe there is a bigger better Tube/Modeling combo on the way. The Mustangs seem to be a decent success and the Super Champ xd seems to have a really cool place in a lot of people's hearts. I imagine that Fender would be wise to find a way to move the line forward.

I had a thought a few months ago and wondered if since Fender created a Super Champ by adding amp models to the Champ circuit amp (or at least a variation thereof) think of the possibilities if they were to make a Hot Rod equivalent. 12 inch speaker, Blues Jr-ish amp with a modeling capability on board. the Fender Super Blues XD? or Hot Rod XD?

Although I have no direct knowledge of what's going on at Fender or even GC for that matter, historically, the only time GC blows out a particular model of anything is when it has been or it is on the brink of being discontinued.

I doubt the SCXD is being discontinued as a matter of fact according to a guy I know at GC, he indicates it is one of their most popular models. If the price you saw was over the week of the 4th of July they were having a big sale with every item discounted. Many of those items are on sale for the month. I could see Fender adding a model with a 12" speaker though, and several people have done this with aftermarket cabinets. If you search Super Champ XD 12" cabinet on ebay and other sites you'll find plenty that look real nice. I think this amp will be around quite awhile. I would not be surprised to see a 12" version however.

I'm not sure when the sale started, but it was the blonde model and they included the 2 button switch with it. I am really excited about my purchase. Great amp.

The last time I recollect GC brooming something of real significance out was a couple of years back when they were dumping maple EJ Strats for fifteen hundred bucks. Of course, this was on the eve of the rosewood EJ Strat's release and everyone assumed that the maple version was being closed out. At last check, both guitars are still cataloged by FMI as "available". I'm doubtful that the SCXD is being discontinued though I wouldn't disregard the rumors of an upgraded model on the horizon. chances are you just lucked out and saved $50 - I'm seeing several BIN for brand new ones at $299.

GC may have been trying a "loss leader" type of sale, where they lower the price on one thing (the Super Champ) knowing you'll come in for that, but will leave with either a bigger/better amp, or a bunch or other higher-margin accessories (straps, picks, cables, strings). Congrats and enjoy the amp.

MF runs the same shtick from time to time. Sometimes there are real deals to be had if one shops "smart".

I think it was Xmas 2009, GC was blowing Champion 600 out the door at $99. I won't worry about the SCXD being discontinued in the near future.

My money's on the "Super Duper Pooper Champ XD-POFS" edition.

In bio-degradeable tweed of course.

Firewire-capable.

Landfill-friendly recycleable cabinet.

Gluten-free edible grill cloth.

Transferrable carbon credits.

Flex-fuel hybrid power-amp section.

And a partridge in a pear tree.

I'm not a fan of amp modeling. I mean, if I want a high gain tone from a Vox AC30, I'll buy an AC30. If I want a nice, clean, reverb-ish, country tone, I'll play a Fender solid state amp.

I know they (Fender) are starting to discontinue the Frontman series, because they are going hot and heavy in the amp modeling area (DEC30, Mustang, etc...).

Anyway, Guitar Center does a lot of strange things from what I have seen in the past. :P

At the same time the SCXD was on sale, so was the TRRI, DRRi, and the Hot Rods. I doubt any of these are going away anytime soon. While some don't seem to like it I really don't think you could ask for much more in a new amp under $300 than the SCXD. I've got several Fender amps from the Super Reverb all the way down to a GDEC-3, and while the SCXD isn't at the level of the reissues, for a versitile practice amp or one for coffee house style gigs it's pretty good.
