hi my problem is i am Home based so no gigging or need to have guitar outside . So my playing of my strat delux is all in my living room about 20x15 feet. I mainly just play blues and workout solos so nothing too heavy.
Problem is i purchased a Line 6 pod hd500 i use it with a pair of rokit rp5 g2 linked with XLR balanced cables .think is i am not happy with the volume level not loud enough for me but the amps sound great.
So i have returned to the shop were i got them the guy has offered me a fender blues deluxe reissue in tweed in exchange for the HD500 and the Rokits.
Yes i want. BUT MY QUESTION WILL THEY BE OK FOR MY PLAYING AT HOME. Or will i be too limited. I do not want to get a debate about modelling amps vs tube.
Does anyone use a blues deluxe at home and if so tell me more. Cheers all

Hi Tom Cunn,

The BDlx will be loud enough for your living room, and your neighbors living rooms also. :shock: That amp will even be plenty loud for gigging. I have the HRDlx (very similar), it is very loud, and with my POD in front of it (or into the "Power Amp In") it is loud enough to blow the doors off of the house. Definitely a window/furniture/wall/door rattling amp.

We have a few members here that own the BDlx, they can testify to the amp being plenty loud. :D

thanks for that. So even at lower volumes it would still be too much.
I love the looks of this amp BLUES DELUXE REISSUE TWEED and could just see it sitting in my living room.
Is there any other amps you could suggest for home use only.
Or should i stick with the HD500 and my virtual collection of amps. Which i do think is great. Is there any thing i can do to improve the volume with my set up. HD500 XLR BALANCED TO KRK ROKIT RP5 G2 MONITORS. Would i be better with a Amp instead of monitors.

I would say, if at all possible keep the Line 6 pedal, huge tone shaping possibilities (if it has headphone out). I really like my POD XT with just about any amp. I have no trouble playing my amp at low levels at home, some have said that their HRd and BDlx amps are too loud even at minimum volume, but that it can be tamed with a lower-gain preamp tube or two in V1 and/or V2.

If you had a POD or similar, and a BDlx, you really wouldn't need anything else, especially considering that it is for home use. My POD has a headphone out jack, and I've only ever had one person in my life complain about the volume being too loud with headphones (yeah she was a b...). If you are at home, why fire up the amp every time and use all those watts when the POD and good headphones actually sound better than the POD through the amp. Does the HD500 have a headphone out?

I'll send out the Bat Signal for Bluesky636........

yeah the hd500 has headphone jack and most of the audio ins and outs. But i am not a big fan of headphones.
My problem is i can only have one or the other in terms of a amp or Line 6 pod hd500 floor plus krk monitors. I can return my current set up to the shop i got them and exchange them for a blues deluxe tweed. I only have tonight to decide which to in for. Thats the HD500 &KRK MONITORS OR THE BLUES DELUXE REISSUE IN TWEED .
Please help me choose. What sort volume setting would be max in my living room. Scale of 1 to 10 on the amp would i be too limited. Sorry i keep asking the same over again just want to be sure. After tomorrow i am stuck with the hd and krk set up.

If I had to choose, I would go with the BDlx. The amp would be plenty loud at 4 or 5 in your living room, even if you have a drummer and bass player over. The only limit would be your ears and your neighbors tolerance. :idea:

I retubed my BDRI as follows:

V1 = Philips JAN 5751
V2 = JJ 12AX7
V3 = JJ 12AT7
V4/5 = JJ 6L6Gc (biased at 38 mA cathode current and 413 VDC plate voltage)

With the reduction in gain afforded by V1 and V3, I play at home with the clean volume on "8" and can still hold a conversation in my room without shouting. :lol:

cheers thats the type of info i need. As i do like the line 6 pod HD floor model i would much prefer a blues delux reissue amp. And the only thing that stood in my way was the noise/volume factor for home only play.
Can you give me more details on what you have done eg. Can i get them in ireland. Cost . Installing. Does this alter or effect the true sound of the amp. And any other ways to reduce the volume.
Big thanks for any replys.

I don't know about Ireland. I purchased my tubes on-line:

http://thetubestore.com/sylvania5751.html

http://www.eurotubes.com/

Amp is much sweeter and less ice-picky. The drive channel does not have as much gain either, but sounds good to me. The amp would need to be rebiased with the JJ 6L6GCs, but that can be accomplished with a decent digital voltmeters and this:

http://www.amp-head.com/product_info.ph ... c9587ff6ba

You can do all of this yourself as long as you exercise due care when workign around high voltages in the amp. Some helpfull stuff on biasing:

many thanks for all the links. if i decide on the amp. Can you give me a idea of the level of volume i could play until i get the alterations done.
Or any other quick fix tips to keep a room volume playable. I do not play heavy rock just picking blues and the odd zappa. JJ. Johnny winter. Country rock. N Young. you know the stuff.
Would i get away with say 4 or 5 in volume.
Just until i can get switch over done.
My living is approximately 20x18feet have my music played most of the time loud without a complaint yet. So i do appreciate volume played loud. as long as it is clear and my ears can make it out without hurting.
Cheers again

20x18 feet is about the size of my studio at home where I play. Before I retubed my amp I probably kept the volume at about "4" on the clean channel. My musical tastes are similar to yours with emphasis on the Blues.

right thats the mind made for me cheers.
Next thing do these alterations effect the guarantee in any way as this is a brand new amp costing £680 the total of the trade in of the pod and monitors.
But without the amp changes i could live with volumes of 4 and maybe 5 depending on the drink consumed.
Cheers again

Well, I did not worry about the warranty and I doubt those that change tubes do either. But, I am not a lawyer, so I cannot say yes or no. Tube changes and bias adjustments are common and easy to do. With care, you would have no problems.

My home studio size is about the same size as yours and I have a BDRI. It will get damn loud and I have shook a few things off the walls when I first got the amp and was breaking in the speakers.

My current studio effects chain in the order on my pedal board is:

Beri CS400 Comp/Sustainer -> EH Soul Preacher -> Beri EQ700 -> Digitech Bad Monkey Tube Over Drive -> Big Muff with Tone Wicker -> Digitech Screamin Blues -> Beri EQ700 -> EH Worm for Vibrato -> 1990's EH Small Stone Phaser -> EH Deluxe Electric Mistress -> Danelectro Cool Cat Stereo Chorus -> Boss Stereo Volume Pedal -> EH Stereo Memory Man with Hazaria -> EH Cathedral Stereo Reverb -> Boss RC3 Stereo Looper -> Left Channel to the BDRI and the Right channel to a Blues Junior

I know that is a lot of stuff, but I write a lot of different styles of music and never know what sound I am going to want or need in one of my songs, until I get there.

For a most of my Blues type sounds like Betts, Allman or Bonamassa, I find myself having the two compressors on, the first EQ set for mids, the Bad Monkey for bite and hit the Screamin Blues for more bite. I have levels on around 10 o'clock on the overdrive pedals, both amps on 4 and use the volume pedal and volume and tone knobs on the guitar to control the wall shaking. For more grit I flame the volume on the guitar and back off on the volume pedal, For less grit just the reverse.
Here is a song with this type of settings..
http://www.songramp.com/mod/mps/viewtra ... ckid=85117

For a more fuzz distortion sound I use the EH Big Muff instead of the Screamin Blues. Using the EH Soul Preacher and the Bad Monkey to over drive the Big Muff is killer and get some freaking awesome tone at low levels using the Volume pedal as described above. I do this mostly for a heavy 80's backing rhythm kinda sound.
This is a song with those settings..
http://www.songramp.com/mod/mps/viewtra ... ckid=85465

I have discovered for a more Santana type lead sound the two compressors, Bad Monkey and the Screamin Blues with the EH Worm set on a little Vibrato and the Chorus on nails it pretty good, and I can get a good tone at low levels using the Volume pedal.

I like to practice with the rig I am going to gig with and all I usually do on site is turn up the amps to more better and use the compressors, EQ, Bad Monkey and Volume pedal.

When I record a track I have an A/B switch off my studio pedal board that sends it to a Vibro Champ set on the Clean Jazz setting cranked to 7 on the Gain and 7 on the Volume. I hit the DAW with a line out on one track and a condenser mike on another track.

I tried the multi effects approach and I could never get the tone into the board, like I can with the Vibro Champ and my physical pedals.
