I have the original American HotRod Deluxe and just recently the drive channel gave up on me. It plays fine in the normal channel but today for whatever reason the sound dies as soon as I switch to the drive channel - pushing more drive does nothing either.

I opened it up and I could hear some slight buzzing when I took if off standby - then again that could have been there since I got it and I've just never noticed...

If any of you could tell me what might be wrong and whether it's possible to get it fixed/fix it myself it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

As the HRdl has only one signal path that is common to Clean/Drive it could be a relais stuck issue, pot open or a wiring/soldering close to the relais. You can deeply inpect the circuit, but take care about high voltage. Make sure it is unplug.

+1 Tis-san

That is exactly what it sounds like, one of the relays is not closing all the way and interrupting the signal (sticking). There are two relays, each with two sets of contacts. You can see them in this picture, small black rectangles, just to the left of the last black capacitor on the right. You can try gently tapping on both with a small piece of wood or plastic, one at a time, with the amp on and the drive channel selected to see if you can get them to work temporarily. Of course this would only verify that one or both should be replaced. Tapping them may not do anything, but I still feel that Tis-san has the correct diagnoses and a relay is likely the culprit. Of course there will be lethal voltages exposed with the back panel off, don't touch anything inside the amp with your hands or any object that can conduct electricity (use wood or plastic).

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.
