Just got a new Blues jr NOS, tweed with the jensens, got a great deal on it new for $491 shipped. Sounds great, but why didn't the Blues Jr did not get the Hot Rod III update like the regular blues jr models?

Hi bluesguitar65,

From my understanding, that amp was the only BJr version that did not get all of the III upgrades. Who knows why? Maybe to keep the "NOS" flavor? You did get the tube cage though.....that's something new. :)

BTW, nice amp. :D

Its a "limited edition" of the old Blues Jr. There are already "limited editions" of the new version appearing. A tweed version will probably show up sooner or later.

I spoke with Fender a while back about the BJr NOS Tweed, and they say there are no plans to change that version.

The NOS must be selling well or they would have done the upgrades.JMO.

Hmm, bought mine in Summer 2007, (it has the little 60th Anniversary Button on the panel) and it has the tube cage on.

Nice amp, love the fact it sounds great (even better with tube swaps) and is so portable, looks great with that Tele leaning up it by the way, you're giving me GAS ;)

Not sure what the 'III' mods are, but it sounds like they may have fixed the awful wobbly knob design for the new version .. I don't like the fact the originals are only secured on the circuit board pots and not the panel, though trimming the plastic pot shafts down a tiny bit on mine took out the slop and made the knobs 'sit' more 'properly' and locate firmly on the panel :)

The Tweed NOS is not llsted on the Fender website, so it may be out of production and the exisiting stock is being sold off.

The newer knobs still work the same way, they are still not secured to the panel. The main difference is that the newer knobs have a separate "shoulder" piece that slides on easier to fit between the pot shaft and the panel, and the knob itself is held on to the shaft with a set-screw. This shoulder piece keeps the knob from wobbling and keeps the downward pressure off of the pots. The old style knobs have the same shoulder part, just as part of the knob, and are harder to push on to the shaft. If you push the old style knobs on completely, they don't wobble either, and they feel more solid. You have to push on the pots from underneath the panel while pushing down on the knobs in order to make them secure.

But, you're right, the new design is better, and easier to work with if they have to be removed and reinstalled.

I can tell by the Limited Edition on the back that it's a 2006 version! I almost bought one locally off CL for $350, the lowest I've seen. I think the III version came out in 2010 according to the Wikipedia Blues Junior page. The Guitar Center site has a bunch of used tweeds listed for $399 if you are looking for one.

I have got stuff off there before in pretty much new condition. I prefer it over eBay and CL, unless some CL offers me a good trade deal which very rarely happens. :(

I have heard the III hot rod mods make it sound bright and brittle.
The jewel light is nice however.
