Shimm, that's just what the cool Geezers call them and most audiophiles. 8) Dampers have been around for a really long time. Some audiophiles claim they can hear a negative difference in their tube powered audio systems when they use them. Kind of like taking the trem cover off of a Strat.

Thanks again guys for all your help and suggestions. I've ordered dampers, so I'll see how I get on when they arrive - I'm in the UK and could only find them in the US, so they'll take a couple of weeks likely. I'll also then take on board advice about checking all the wiring hitting the panel and see how I get on.

Hopefully try and update you all once I've attempted all this!

Thanks again! :)

I had this exact same issue with a brand new hot rod III. I took it back and they took it apart. It was the power tube. Gave me a new amp. tube was damaged in shipping. but your description was a perfect way to describe the sound mine was making.

Hey guys, thought I'd give a quick update.

I recieved the tube dampers and fitted them and noticed an immediate difference. It's not completely sorted it though. I'd say it's removed about 75% of the problem. I can still hear the rattle at certain frequencies but it's no where near as intense or as bad as it was. Probably the only way to properly solve it is by replacing the power tubes. Might do that eventually but it's far more tolerable now.

Just on a different tangent. I've been properly playing the amp and I'm really liking it, but am I right in saying that the drive channels have slightly less lower end than the clean channel? I play the clean channel and it sounds very bassy, then tap the footswitch, same volume and eq etc, and the bass frequencies on the drive channel are not as strong and a tad muddy for want of a better description. Is this common to the Hot Rod Deluxe? It's not the biggest issue, I was just wondering if it was only myself that found this.

Yes, more low end on the clean channel, that's normal.

Yes, the drive channel on all the Hot Rods and Blues Reissues have a circuit to roll off the bass. The idea, I guess, is that you are going to play the drive channel louder and it would be best to roll off the bass a little to prevent overload. With the tubes I have in my BDRI, the drive channel is as clean as the clean channel. I use the clean channel for single coils and the drive channel for humbuckers. With the the bass set for my single coil guitars, I find the drive channel rolls off the bass just enough to keep humbuckers from sounding muddy.

Yep, my Egnater has a thing called a "tight" switch that you can turn on if you use a ton of gain to tighten up the bass response. Less bass is the way to go if you crank the gain up.
