IMO Some mods are nothing but turd polish. I've never modded an amp to try to chase the sound of another. I always sold it first.

+1

Buy the tone you need in the first place.

Arjay

If FenderFreak63 wants to mod his tone stack because he thinks it will give him better tone, why do you guys have to rag on him like that? I don't think the mod is worth it myself, but I'm not going to beat the guy up because he thinks it is.

Yes, so only this part of my post would apply to what you posted:

...Some tweeds had only a tone pot, some had bass and treble pots and some had bass, treble and mid pots. Same with the BF amps, some had a mid pot, some didn't. So, to refer to a "Tweed tone stack" or a "BF tone stack" is meaningless.

The rest is to try to point out what this "mod" is and what it isn't, for anyone who might have a misconception about it, as appears to be the case.

I don't see anyone ragging anyone. He can do what he wants. All I see are opinions. Shimm's right. As is Arjay and myself. I don't think FenderFreak63 asked anyone to defend him or come to his rescue. An amp sounds the way it does by design, not because someone selling mods says it will sound like a specific amp. It won't. Will it improve his tone? Only FenderFreak63 can say. Is it worth the hassle possibly. There's tons of people peddling parts and mods saying they will make one amp sound like something it can't just by design differences. It's no biggie. What makes me chuckle is anyone willing to toss a valuable warranty over it if the amp still has one.

 Not your fault, modding is always a subject of debate around here. Heck, we can't even agree on exactly what is considered a mod. :? But, good to hear that you liked the way it turned out, that's all that really matters. And, unless you purchased the extended 18+ year warranty, it has expired long ago, so mod away. 8)

Personally, I consider any alteration that requires the use of a soldering iron to be a "mod". Tube swaps and speaker replacements are merely "upgrades" while minor cosmetic changes only comprise a visual variation.
