You mean the BillM mod to turn the tonestack from a Tweed Bassman type tonestack to a Blackface type tonestack? No, never saw the need for it.

Then I guess you will like the mod.

I put that jumper on the mid pot on every amp that doesn't have it if I get the chance. Much better control over the tone with the jumper. On my own amps, the HRDvl 4x10, the HRDlx and the BJr all have the jumper installed. Above 4 on the mid pot is just the same as before the jumper, but with the jumper you can completely dial out the mids, as well as the treble and/or bass.

I've never found that necessary to do on my BDRI.

Nope. Real tweed tone stacks don't behave that way. Compare the schematic of a 59 Bassman to a BF Twin Reverb to understand.

You won't make a DeVille to sound like a BF Bassman just by changing the tone stack. There's a lot more to it than that. It seriously won't sound like a Twee Bassman either. Tweed goes way deeper than the covering on the amp.

Only an alchemist named "Merlin" can make stuff like that happen.

IMO Some mods are nothing but turd polish. I've never modded an amp to try to chase the sound of another. I always sold it first.

+1

Buy the tone you need in the first place.

Funny how stories grow. This mod (jumper) is referred to as a "Twin Stack Mod" as it alters the tone stack mid pot wiring to be just like the tone stack wiring in a Twin Reverb, and it has nothing to do with Tweed, or BF or any other kind of "sound" alteration. It is only for better control of the tone, particularly the mids, and the BDvl will still sound like a BDvl, only with a bit better tone control. Some tweeds had only a tone pot, some had bass and treble pots and some had bass, treble and mid pots. Same with the BF amps, some had a mid pot, some didn't. So, to refer to a "Tweed tone stack" or a "BF tone stack" is meaningless.

Please note the words I used: "turn the tonestack from a Tweed Bassman type tonestack to a Blackface type tonestack".

I never said the Blues Deville sounded like a Tweed amp to begin with or that this mod would make it sound like a Blackface amp. I only referenced two specific type tone stacks and I was talking only about the tone stacks.
