It seems that I can't maintain the tone out of my amp. Even at low volume I get distortion. I had a tech change the speaker the tubes and adjust the bias. My next step is to drop it off the roof. Any ideas?

Heave ho!! Seriously, did the tech check the solder joints on the tube sockets and filter caps?

It sounded great for the past month and all of a sudden the distortion channel sounds usable and the clean sounds like i blew a speaker. I believe he checked it out thoroughly. they are the same guys Mark "the animal" Mendoza uses for all of his gear, and he is brutal to his stuff, while I baby everything.

The bad solder joints on the tube sockets aren't always obvious. Use a magnifying glass and gently wiggle the 6L6 power tubes while watching the joints. If you see cracks, reflow the solder with a soldering iron. You have the same symptoms I had with mine. I had an intermittent power tube because of the joints. Might be worth a try. The 5 watt resistors are notorious for causing problems too.
Look here too. It's a great resource for all things in the HRD series.

Get your tech to check the screen grid resistors

Same problem on my blues deville and you get no clean tone at all on the clean channel

its a cheap fix, but not always obvious

Check also the Phase Inverter resistors. Unballanced PI = distortionned tone .

Serious questions about a "tech who can't finish the job.
