I am not a proud man.

I've owned a Squire Champ amp for 15 years and more times often than not it's been the amplifier I've used for just playing with friends, or if I'm crashing an acoustic gig with my electric. In fact, at a recording studio I had the choice between a half stack, a Fender Jazzman, and a host of other amplifiers that were available...

I ended up using that Squire with an Ibanez Tube King for the lead.

But, neither here nor there....my question is this:

Is there any chance Fender could put out a Squire amp in the 25-watt range? Something with no frills, no reverb, single channel, single speaker, transistorized board, "something a bit bigger than the Champ" for kids who may be playing in the high school jazz band, guitarists who have to keep it on the down-low in church, or for old lechers like me who enjoy good products at a great price!!

Who knows? Maybe you'll be able to eat up a big chunk of Marshall's shrinking market in the process!

A 15 watt tube amp will totally blow a 25 watt solid state amp off a stage. Try a Champ you'll probably be surprised how loud it is. I've used a 6 watt 70's Champ Amp through 2 10"s and it was just fine.

Tube amps are where it's at, but I was also thinking about the price of something like this....Just a no-frills amp that was really durable and could be had at a very reasonable price...

There's lots of other amps around, but they all have all the bells and whistles. I like stripped down stuff too. Solid state amps will be around half of what a tube amp costs. Every solid state amp I can think of has a ton of effects and stuff. You could look into some older used solid state amps on Ebay. You could always try a Fender Frontman. Fender used to make a Champion 30 too.
Good luck on your quest.

Street price on a Fender Champ is under $200, the Epi Valve Junior street price is under $150. Both are 5 watt tube amps with just a volume control, no tone controls, reverb or anything else. Both allow you to unplug the speaker and plug into a cab if you want to. The Champ has an additional "microphone" channel and a 6 inch speaker, the Epi has just one input, but it has an 8" speaker which is a better deal IMO. I've got a Valve Junior and it's almost as loud as my Fender Blues Jr.
