Hi.

The reverb unit seems to be causing problems. When the amp is transported to/ from gigs, the next time it is fired up there is a loud high-pitched whistling noise from the speakers. This doesn't always happen, but usually does. Anyway, if I manipulate the cable that connects the amp to the reverb spring unit, it stops and stays stopped until the amp is transported again.

I'll get it looked at by an amp tech I know, but wondered if anyone else had had this problem.

Secondly. Does anyone use the footswich in a live situation, or is it more common to use a Tube Screamer or similar through the clean channel and not use the other channel?

Sounds like a bad connecting cable. Easy fix.

Use of a TS or the drive channel is up to personal taste depending on the type sound you are shooting for.

I think you are right.

I am going to continue with the channel switch, I think. I have a Blues Driver pedal by Boss, but I think I prefer the channel switch at the moment.

Thanks.

Try to turn and / or unplug and plug many time the reverb cables in their rca jack , this will help to clean the contact.

Thanks. I will do that first. See if it stops the problem.

Okay, so I touched the tips of the three preamp valves with my finger. Valve1 was microphonic (making a sound through the speakers when touched), so I replaced it (It was the leftmost of the three valves).

This seems to have cured the problem. It was nothing to do with the reverb unit itself - so I think a lesson was learnt here about the effect a dodgy valve can have and how easy it is to jump to conclusions.

I am also now using the standby when switching on/off, as this can cause problems if not used properly.

I hope this might help other people who are having problems.

FYI - The left most preamp tube is V3, the phase inverter, not V1. Tubes are always counted from right to left.

Ah. Thanks for that.

Everything sounds good now. Just needed the new valve.
