I am a perpetual noob and I am looking to buy a new amp. I currently have a Champion 600 that I have thought about (and decided against) using as trade toward something. I really liked the Mustang III, but have read all the negative stuff about them and it makes me a bit nervous about going that route. I have been reading a lot of good things about the new G-DEC line. Since I am a beginner, I like the idea of the jam-along feature and the ability to buy new SD cards with new jam tracks. I have also been looking at the Super Champ XD. I have tried all of them at GC, but unforunately get "fumble fingers" when I am there and can't really put any of them through any kind of test that would really steer me one way or the other. I can play some Ventures stuff and usually end up doing some variations of 12-bar blues.

Opinions?

Thanks,
Jim

The SCXD is the closest to a traditional "plug-and-play" amp of the three you've mentioned. And it uses a tube output stage which lends a more vintage timbre to the overall tone (though the pre-amp is solid-state IC-driven, as are the various effects).

JMO, YMMV

It can be hard to really "hear" what the amp sounds like when you get those "fumble fingers". One solution might be - ask someone to play through them while you listen.

My belief is - get what sounds good to YOU. It may cost a bit more (or not) but if it sounds good to you, you will be happier.
