Yeah. he's such a lovable easy goin' real blues man. On "Crossroads 2010" DVD, He closed the show with "The Thrill is Gone" which I think is one of his best. It was appropriate that he closed the night as the Sun sets on his seemingly unending career We all know that BB doesn't have another decade to do what he's been doing for around 70 (seventy) in that always recognizable BB King style.

My wife and I saw Andres Segovia on his last US tour before he died at around age 85. Yeah he made a few clunkers, but no one really cared. The depth of emotion that he brought out alone on stage with his guitar was phenominal. We have tickets to go see Doc Watson in October. Doc is also about 85. We last saw him play live over 20 years ago with his late son, Merle. We can't wait. Was BB's show that we saw this past New Year's Day be the last one we will ever see before he dies? I sure hope not.

He'll always have my respect. I just won't spend the big bucks to see him.
I used to see Les Paul at the Iridium Jazz Club in NY and at 92 he put on a great show to about 100 people. The club is tiny. The last time I went not long before he passed and he played amazingly well, interacted and had fun with the audience, but he did what people paid to see. Play his guitar. His hands were crippled with arthritis and he still played well. I paid $50 to see him and sat three feet away from him. Maybe BB should do the same thing.

Beaubs, I don't like huge shows either. Last year I saw Sonny Landreth at our local "Concert Under the Stars" for ten bucks. We walked to the field by our township building. Only about 100 people showed up because it rained earlier. The show was incredible and he hung out to sign stuff and talk to people.

I wanted to ask "BluesBondsman" about his Visual Sounds Route 66 effects pedal. I've got two Visual Sounds pedals and glad that I bought them. The H20 Chorus with delay is a beautiful sounding pedal on both sides. The delay is sweet. I bought the Jekyll Hyde Overdrive - Distortion. The overdrive is less transparent than my TS-808 but still can be transparent. Have you compared the overdrives in the J & Hyde and the R 66? Please let me know if you have any help on that. Thank you. About Les Paul. 'Icon' doesn't even begin to describe what a guitar GOD. His "log". A hunk of wood with a pickup and 'wings'!An amazing sound on sound enthusiast who played part over part without error. Like a kid with his toy. He would smile as he made up part after part. Just his career touring and recording with Mary Kay is no less than a sensational achievement. He asked Gibson to quit using his namesake truss rod covers on the "SG" version or 'solid guitar' version of the Les Paul in '61 but they continued to use up the ones that were left anyway. He was angry with Gibson about that double cutaway change in design and many were surprised that he made up with them after they went back to his approved design.

I want to add that I saw a promo photo with Les Paul & Mary Kay from 1961 and they were both holding white 61 SG/Les Pauls and smiling. He must not have been that upset with Gibson.ADDED JULY 10th...I read where Gibson 'made him do that smiling routine' . It was contractual.

Time for me to jump in here.

I have a deep affection for B. B. King. I first saw him when I was 15 years and it completely changed my musical universe. He is and has been one of the most highly regarded and influential Blues guitarists in history.

I think it can be stipulated that he is not the same player as he was years ago. But that is no need to disrespect him. Would you disrespect your elderly father or grandfather because he was no longer the same man that he was? Think about it.

A total non sequiter......there's a helluva difference between an aging-but-beloved relative and a professional entertainer beyond his prime that disappoints fans who paid money to see him perform. As for BB's accomplishments, I think we're all respectful of him and acknowledge all due reverence for his many contributions to the music world in general and specifically, the blues genre. But as a performing artist, stick a fork in him -- he's done.

Could be. But I don't think the disparaging comments are necessary. Seems kinda harsh.

No disparaging is intended or inferred.

But just as I have no wish to see a sixty-five year old Catherine Bach at a meet-and-greet wearing her trademark "Daisy Dukes", I'm not paying a dime to hear a blues guitarist talk.

I respect BB and all that he has done throughout the decades. I'm one of the old time people who still believe in respect for our elders; whether they be players or not.
