Hi folks, im trying to fix a new R.I Super reverb amp. it has a terrible distorted sound every time i play chords or some notes, (similar to a clip distortion when you use an active instrument on an input that cannot handle that high output), if i play soft (very soft) sounds clean, but at normal play its distorted. i put new tubes, tryed the speakers with a different amp, also tryed the super reverb chasis wired to my old 78 sf bassman ten (4X10) and noticed that the distortion sound is less with that cab. then i hook up the speaker cab of the super reverb to my bassman ten chassis and speakers sound great! so after that im prety sure something is bad on the inside of the super reverb. i pull out the chassis and everything seems good clean, also checked all connections and no loosen cables, no speaker jack is bent. i turn the bias pot to left or right with no better results. im stuck here... any ideas suggestions? anybody else with the same problem? its a new amp so . i also checked leakings for the filter caps and everything is fine :( SERIAL IS. CR-276652 PLEASE IM DESPERATE. Im going to upload a video and post it here tomorrow. thanks everyone for watching this.

If it's new, why not return it to the dealer for exchange or refund?

When you put new tubes in did you happen to set the bias on the amp. Did you also happen to check the Choke or coupling caps or plate load resistor? Is it on just one channel or is it both.Have you swapped preamp tubes

Ok.... so the SRRI sounds okay through different speakers. And the SRRI speakers sound fine with a different amp. Correct?

Take Arjay's advice and take it back on warranty. Sounds like a bad output tranny or coupling cap somewhere or other in your circuit. DON'T touch the thing. Take advantage of the warranty. Part of the cost of the amp is the warranty.

The problem with this troubleshooting "technique" is, the Bassman 10's aggregate impedance is 8Ω (4 x 32Ω speakers, wired in parallel). Thus, when this (ahem) test was performed, the amp was not connected to the specified speaker load for a Super Reverb. Which, as all experienced Fender amp techs know, is two ohms.

Ummm, did you actually measure the bias voltage at the Fender test point while you were "turn(ing) the bias pot left or right"? Did you measure the plate voltage? What did you leave the bias pot set to? If you just turned the pot and didn't actually measure the bias voltage, you may be set way too cold or way too hot, neither of which is a desireable condition. I agree with Arjay: Take the amp to someone who knows what they are doing.

You should take everyone's advise and take it back before you really screw the pooch. Try the new one out in the store too. A bad filter cap can give you a distorted sound. Cheap electrolytic caps abound in all the new Fender amps except the hand wired Custom Shop reissues. But take it back before you completely void the warranty.

thanks for the fast reply, is in both channels. i swapped the tubes, also tried new tubes. i havent tried the choke, nor measure the bias.... uhmmmm im starting to think on a refund, since the fender tech service here in guatemala really sucks. the techs dont know a thing about, they are not fender people, just techs that are hired to work for the distributor of fender here. so taking the amp there is a very bad idea. and since here are no amp techs im trying to get some tips here :( im very worried, does anybody know if there are resistors like r57 or a cap to check? i have a good tech by my own i can tell him what to check or do if you guys give me a hand here :) nobody with the same problem here? i have lots of vintage fenders and this is the first bad experience with a new one.... its not fare for a new amp to fail like that, also i selled two new DR since the reverb tends to fail after use..... :( thank you really. if no hope to bring the amp to live in a few days i for sure go to the store before i really screw up things. thanks for the advice guys.

Sounds like it's time to assemble a burial detail and blow "Taps".

Without qualified local technical assistance, your situation is hopeless.
