i have a 2x12 blues deville that i want to open up some more
i had the thought of adding a 4x12 marshall cab
does that make any sense at all?
is it worth trying? would it do anything to the sound? louder? fuller? etc?

this is the cab

what do i need to know about ohms when picking a speaker cab?

anyone ever try these avatar cabs?

According to the HRDvl 2 x 12 schematic......

http://web.archive.org/web/200610201018 ... eville.pdf

Any load connected to the extension speaker jack should measure 4Ω (the same impedance of the amp's internal speakers).

Just a word on that Avitar Cab. A good friend of mine has an Egnater running through an Avitar Cabinet. I believe his has a single Celestion speaker. he says it is absoutely perfect for his needs. I know a couple guys with twin 12 Celestions and they also love them. Avitar is now making amps too!! I would like trying one just to see what they've got. If the amps are put together as well as the speaker cabinets are they should be something.

The Avatars are indeed great cabs and great value for the $$$. And the real beauty lies in the fact that they're available in nearly every configuration and type of cosmetic trim imaginable.

cool. thanks for the avatar opinions folks.
i'm gonna see about trying it out. not sure how it'll work with my exact configuration.
but it's worth a shot.
a external 2x12 would probably be more appropriate.

definately have an urge to order one of these from Avatar.
their options should satisfy anyone.
i for one am looking at the blonde/oxblood combo with a 4ohm load that would go perfectly with my blonde/oxblood deville, i think.

hey folks.
so it seems i need 4ohm cab to work as an extension with my amp.
i'm looking at this 4 12 16 ohm cab tho.

is it possible to rewire that at 4 ohms?
or can 16ohms be okay?

If the speakers measure 16Ω and are wired series-parallel (for the 16Ω total) you can re-wire them in standard parallel configuration to arrive at the necessary 4Ω.

Bigger and better question - why would you need more volume than that amp? If you're playing at a larger venue, they should have a PA and they should be able to stick a '57 on your amp and you'll be plenty loud. Controlling stage volume is one of the tougher lessons for bands to learn, but the faster you get there, the better you are.

Is the issue no PA or is the rest of the band insanely loud as well?

well, yeah
in rehearsal we have no PA
which really sucks for vocals
but yeah you're probably right
i probably don't need more volume
but we're not at the point to play shows yet
maybe i should start looking at a PA because it'd be better to get the vocals right when rehearsing probably

just seems like a pretty sweet cab to have around
