Hi all!

So I've been having issues with my HRD, it's way too bright. I use pedals for my dirt/drive and the tone I get out of my amp would be great if it wasn't so bright and had tighter bass. I played a Blues Deluxe RI today and felt that while it was similar it wasn't bright like the HRD.

Is the BD a good choice of amp for me? I couldn't really crank it, so will it become bright when cranked?

Thanks!

Are you running the HRDlx with the bright switch on? Too much treble control? What kind of guitar and pups? I never found my HRDlx to be too bright. A tube change could help too.

Bright switch is off. Using a stock 2008 American standard strat. I really don't have time for trial and error with new valves/speakers, my bands been booked for studio time really soon, so I need an amp that will do what I need!

DRRI hands down for studio work. Why piss around with hit and miss?

Yeah. The DRRI is a fine gigging amp. 40 watts will not be twice as loud as 22. With my HRDlx I was blown out by a DRRI just because it cut the mix better. I was asked to turn down my Egnater Rebel 20 by a guy with a 60 watt DeVille. The guy was on 6, I wasn't even at half volume. It's all about speaker efficiency and effective amp design not about watts. The DRRI sounds and cuts better than any HRD series amp, is built better and is more reliable too. Also you can run another cab with the DRRI if you need to push more air or just mic it. My HRDlx didn't hold up to gigging at all. I had to keep getting it repaired until I finally sold it.

+1

Don't waste your time and money on the HR series... the DRRI is perfect for studio and most gigs.

The BDRI is a very different sounding amp from the HRD. No where near as much gain but a sweeter, mellower "blues" sound. It would help to know what sort of music you are playing or sound that you are trying to achieve. I love my BDRI with JJ tubes and a 5751 in V1.

try to turn down the tone on your guitar. it will bring out some intresting overtones and harmonics with a "bright" amp or a "bright"setting. try it before you change amps. i use a bdri and love it, the other guys are right a tube change makes a difference, but there are always other things that can be done besides spending money. if you have cash go for it if not try tone control changes they don't cost anything and it can pay off.
