I'm sure this is making the guys at Clark, Victoria etc.... happy as they can be.
One more round of garbage quality from Fender and they will be the places where guys like us shop for a quality Fender (style) amp.

From the eighties buy out untill the last few years they seemed very much on track to have a second golden age of Fender, now it seems from reading posts here QC is way out of wack.

Not picking on the Mexico fender plant but it makes you wonder if all the trouble Mexico is having (being run by drug dealers) is having an affect on them ????
Maybe they should reopen the amp operation here in the USA ?
I know they love the cheap help, but if they loose their reputation as a solid manufacture over it was it worth it ???
I'm betting a marketing strategy of made in the USA might just work today !!!

Great point BB. Another thing I've been thinking about is that the profit margin on the HRD series has to be huge because of cheap labor and cheap components and they want to keep it that way to carry the probably less profitable products. The GDecs, Mustangs and VM series amps are probably the same way. Cheap labor and components. Mabey they can invest in a landfill operation.

Why should I be angry at GC - it is FENDER who sold two broken amps!!!! I think I am done with Fender!
The first amp coulda been just bad luck but the second amp ....did you not say was from the floor...hence being used already and probably abused by some young punk who doesn't give a rats $@! about going into guitar center and just wailing on gear cause GC lets their customers do that.I wouldn't blame Fender. The amp coulda been kicked, knocked over ,spit on ,dragged around with the guitar cord attached to guitar.I have seen some crazy $@!& at Guitar Center and would never buy off the floor from them ever

A wise decision, sir.

The guy at GC gave me the amp off the floor to bring home. He said he would call me when he got the new one in, before they unbox it and let me swap. Even though the one I have seems fine, my inclination is to swap because of the potential abuse (although they say that the kids plug into the Line 6's and wail, not the $500 plus amps.

Any advice here?

I understand your concern.Another way to look at it is the speaker is probably broken in and it has some hours on it ,so you know there are no known problems. You could see if he will mark it down as a demo unit with full factory warranty and maybe throw in some tubes , otherwise get a new one ,unbox it and play it before you bring it home.Either way you still have 30 days to bring it back with no questions asked.

+1 on all points, Bud.

Definitely a tough call. I get the warranty and the they aren't going to give me any tubes because they are offering me the new boxed one.

A hypothetical. I bring it in, and I don't like the new one's tone as much as the one I have (I love this one's tone), do I just take this one back home? If I am willing to do that, I might as well keep this one now.

Hmmmmm

Any new tubes they might conceivably give you as part of some "settlement" will likely be the same as what's currently installed in the amp you now have.

As you said, a "tough call".

If you like the tone of this one and see no issues with the amp, go with that .I would still try to haggle with it though because its a store demo.It is saving them the hassle of another transaction if you get the boxed one.To me its always better to go with a sure thing than the unknown.JMO.Arjays right about the tubes, they only would give you whats already in it. I retubed my Blues Jr with JJs and like them alot.I went thru quite a few of the GTs from GC before I git some good ones.JJs are pretty reliable and really cheap online.

I'd go with the old saying "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush", if the one you have sounds great to you, then keep it.

Unfortunately Fender has really become a company that is riding on the coat-tails of it's forefathers. The average person buys an amp like the Hot-Rod series and they feel they are getting the legendary Fender, built to last, working musician's lifetime tool, as they did years ago, but sadly that is now far from the truth.

The AC-15 is awesome. I am having so much fun. The top boost is powerful and the 'normal' channel handles rhythm really nicely. I am going to have to get the pedal soon to switch.

There is always a little distortion - just a bit - even with the cleanest setting - which just adds to the charm. The reverb really outdoes anything the BJr had - sorry. I haven't even started playing with the built in Tremelo. It plays really warmly at low volume and holds its tones at higher volumes.

I don't know guys....I might be in love. Don't tell my wife.

+1 If someone abused it, it would show up rather quickly. The AC 15 is a great little amp.
