I just brought a new Super Sonic Twin Combo home the other day... haven't really had time to use it until right now. On both the Vintage and Burn channels, if I turn the reverb up like past 5, in about 10 seconds I'll start getting an increasingly loud swell of reverb. If I turn it back down, it goes away.

I took the back cover off and started tapping on the tubes with a pencil eraser. I REALLY don't know what a microphonic or bad tube sounds like, but one of the tubes makes a MUCH louder noise when I tap on it. If you're facing the back of the amp, it was in the row of tubes furthest from you, and I THINK it was the third from the right (or somewhere around there) ... which tubes are the reverb drivers?

Also, the other issue I'm having is that the reverb is NOT lush at all. I almost can't tell that its on. Doesn't sound anything like Fender reverb. There's a little bit of background buzz as well when I turn the reverb up. I tried swapping the red and white cables that connect the reverb, that actually made it worse, so they were in the right position to begin with.

Please help. I bought this amp because I wanted something QUALITY, I just went through TWO defective Hot Rod Deluxes, I'm having a REALLY bad experience with Fender amps... but I love Fender tone... oh the troubles of life.

My only advice at this point is : Bring the amp back to the dealer, explain what is wrong, and ask for a replacement with one that you have tested.

I should also point out that the club/arena switch doesn't really do anything noticeable... I sat around for like an hour yesterday with the amp cranked, flipping it into standy, flipping the club/arena switch, turning it back on, then playing more. I noticed MAYBE like a 5-10% drop in volume, but honestly I think that was just placebo... it's supposed to bring 100watts down to 25watts, shouldn't there be a very audible difference?

Indeed.

I recollect the now-discontinued pro-tube series of amps (Pro, Super, Twin) each had a ¼-power switch on the rear panel and the difference between the "low" and "high" setting was relatively dramatic.

Hmm. So there must be something wrong with the circuitry? I mean, could one bad tube cause all that? I'm used to owning solid state amps, tubes are so much more to worry about haha... and this one definitely has more than a few.

One thing about the Super Sonic Twin is that it's still fairly new and hasn't really saturated the stores, at least around here. I was about to buy a Super Sonic 22 when the guy at the music store told me about this new version that their rep had brought in a couple weeks ago... yeah it was quite a jump in price but when he told me about it, I had him order it on the spot... he's my friend, so I didn't really mind going solely on his opinion. He ordered one in each color for me so that I could be vain and choose... I guess I'll be going back tomorrow and seeing if the black one has similar problems :/
