Hi, I just got a brand new DRRI and the sound is quite incredible, now after playing around for an hour I noticed one thing, there is a ringing sound whenever I hit any input jack with the cable plug or when I tap the amp on top, this ring is not loud but sometimes I can hear it when I play certain notes. It only happens when I turn the amp on with the standby being on also, if the amp is completely off it will not happen
Should this be normal? I lowered the speaker volume to 0 and still happens, oh and there is also one power tube with a blue glow, is all this normal? sorry for the long post im quite new to this

Sounds like one of your tubes is microphonic (loosey-goosey guts that act like a microphone and picks up noises).

Switch the 12AX7 from the input position to another 12AX7 position, say from the NORMAL input position (V1) to the VIBRATO input (V2). Now see if the ringing noise follows the tube, as you switch inputs.

Better yet, if you have some spare, known good 12AX7's, sub them into various 12AX7 positions and see if the noise goes away.

Since this is a brand new unit, and if it's not too much of a bother to return the amp... that's what I would do. And after they fix the thing, try it out in the store---just to be sure.

Good luck!

Yeah, you'll still hear some ringing even if you swap input positions. As the circuits aren't totally separate from each other (NORMAL & VIBRATO). Right now, you should have the dealer replace the microphonic tube with whatever brand is quiet. Be sure to test it before leaving the shop.

If you are too far from shop to bring amp back (like you got it from MusiciansFriend and you live 1000 miles away)--- see if they will send you another tube, which they tested as being quiet. It maybe a good idea to buy a couple of tested 12AX7 as spares. Along with fuses (I can't believe how many musicians don't keep a couple of fuses in their cabs).

If you HAVE to buy a new tube. Believe it or not, I've had pretty good luck with the RI TungSol 12AX7 (NOT to be confused with the crazy 6V6GT TungSol RI). The new Sovtek 5751 is a good mate for the DRRI, input position. Really depends on the tone you are after.

More important than new bottles is an idle-bias check (and adjustment if necessary). Every new Fender tube amp I've ever seen has been biased too cold to let the output tubes hit their natural "sweet spot". You may find that the OEM glass sounds pretty good once the output stage has been optimized. And unless your V9 (GZ34) has an actual problem such as rattling elements, I'd use it. Noisy pre-amp tubes should be replaced of course -- you've already got some righteous recommendations in that regard. There are others as well.

Have fun and enjoy the new amp......most of us here own at least one DRRI.

thanks for all the advice,, it really is the best tube amp I've had, actually the 2nd tube amp I own haha! but all in all i'm really loving the great tone this amp gives, it really suits my style... its really a pain here with tube amps since there are no one who can do a good bias adjustment on a tube amp, at least no one I would really trust, so i will have to learn to do it but im having just a great time and I think my GAS has just gone too far this time im really excited jaja

You'll love the tone even more once the speaker is fully broken in (after about 20 hours of use).
