This is a new amp, but when I hit low E and especially Low-A strings, (and loudest on Low-A string, third fret) makes a really strangle subtle crackly unusual sound. What's going on here? Do I need to return this amp, or is one of the tubes bad, or is this a tube rattle. Is this a 'microphonic tube' issue? Pardon, new to tube amps here. Looks like there is one 12ax7 and two 6v6.

Hi DaveSF,

I would definitely check for warranty since it is new. It could be a tube rattling (12AX7 or an output tube), or it could be something loose on the amp, check that all screws are tight on the chassis and speaker, etc. A microphonic tube would cause uncontrolled feed back (howling), whereas a rattling tube could cause a noise like you've described.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

If it's new, take it back.

i would say there is something loose in the amp, that responds to the frequency of the note that you are hitting

This is a cheap quickie ... to try. Tighten the 4 screws that mount the upper wood baffle to the main frame. Also tighten the 4 screws that hold the metal tube guard on that baffle. Caution: don't turn so vigorously that you strip the threads. I had to take the wood baffle off, put a rubber gasket strip on the back (some cheap car stipping from Pep Boys), and remount to the chassis to get rid of an annoying vibration. Though, the tighten may be all you need.

Also be sure to just seat the tubes flush (maybe they got slightly loose).

+1

Check the retainer nuts that hold the speaker to the baffle board as well.
