I tried searching around for a fix to this problem, but my 60 watt super sonic will start letting out this super high pitched noise that doesnt stop until I turn it off. If I turn the reverb all the way down..it does this still but much quieter. Is this just a reverb tank replacement? Thanks

Hi mandance,

Might be a microphonic preamp tube. First suspect would be V10 (12AX7), or even V9 (12AT7), (reverb tubes).

Hmm, should I replace those then? Replacing verb tubes doesnt require any sort of re biasing does it? I am not the most handy with amp repairs or anything. What replacement tubes would you suggest?

Setting the bias only applies to output tubes. You might try pulling both reverb tubes, one at a time, and see if the noise goes away. Make sure that the amp is switched off before pulling/reinserting a tube, then pull V10 and turn the amp back on and try. If noise is still there, reinsert V10 and pull V9 and try. If the noise goes away with a tube pulled, that tube is suspect, and if the noise stays with tube removed, the problem is somewhere else. If pulling one of these two tubes results in the noise going away, the problem could be in the circuit and not the tube, but the tube would be the first thing to check. I like the GT tubes myself.

Ill try that out. I have to get the noise to happen first. Sometimes it happens after 3 minutes of playing, at other times it could be an hour. Its totally random.

Oh yeah, and if its a circuit issue like you said? Is that something a tech would have to fix?

Really, at this point, it is all guesswork as to where to start looking for the problem. The tubes, and maybe the reverb tank and the speaker, are user serviceable parts. Going with the odds, it's a tube issue. If not a tube, maybe the tank, then circuit, etc. If you have a warranty, check to see what's covered, and for how long.
