OK, so I don't know enough about this to argue one way or another. Both of my amps
were designed with a 8 ohm load , so disconnecting my amps 8 ohm speaker and connecting
it to a 2x12 cabinet with a 8 ohm load gives me a lot more speaker with the same load.

If I'm buying speakers I could go two ways and end up with a 8 ohm load, is one option
more desirable than the other?

Two 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel = 8 ohm load

Two 4 ohm speakers wired in series = 8 ohm load

Or....

if I use two 8 ohm speakers I have from an old amp I end up with this:

Two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel = 4 ohm load

Please discuss to help me make a decision. I will most likely make a cabinet and buy
two speakers so I'm not limited in any way.

My preference would be two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel giving four ohms. Most Fender speakers are 8 ohms, so they could be used in nearly any fender amp. I usually prefer speakers wired in parallel, so if you must have 8 ohm 2x12, use two 16s in parallel. It might be a challenge to find many 4 ohm, 12 inch speakers.

Thanks,
Like I said, I have two speakers I can try in that configuration. I need to learn more
before I buy new speakers. My inexperienced brain says to go with two 16 ohm
speakers wired in parallel for a 8 ohm load.

Anyone else with an opinion?

Still in the planning stages, enjoying the Pro Jr as is. The stock speaker sounds great.

The documentation that came with both of my amps (Pro Jr & Princeton Reverb) warn against
connecting to anything less than 8 ohms so thats what it will be.

I will be building a 2x12 cabinet with a 8 ohm load that can be used with either of my two amps. I
haven't spent the money on the speakers, I'm leaning towards two of these "Celestion G12M
Greenback 12" 16 Ohm Guitar Speaker 25W" What you think?

The company I work for decided to fund my speaker cabinet project by the way of their profit sharing program. Decision making time, I need your help. . I talked about two Greenback 12" 16 Ohm Guitar Speakers 25W; would two of these be a better choice for the pro jr? Or, I'm open for suggestions. I'd like to keep the speaker purchase in the $200 - $250 range.

You probably know this but, hook them up in parallel. It will have that proper 8 ohm load and, it will sound great. Good luck! If you go below the 8 ohms it is bad for your PJ.

No, it isn't. I would like people to learn exactly what happens with a slight impedance mismatch, instead of them just parroting something that they've heard, yet know nothing about. Impedance matching for a tube amp is about getting the most power from the amp, that is all. An impedance mismatch within a 2 to 1 ratio, high or low will be just fine for a tube amp, and sometimes the sound is preferable with the mismatch.

Do as you please then. I'm not parroting anything. I'm just going by what people who work on amps have told me. The rule is don't go below the ohm rating. You can go higher but, not lower. Go ahead and smoke your OT.

That is parroting. Repeating what you heard with no understanding of what impedance matching is about. Nothing is going to "smoke", you have no idea. This myth gets repeated over and over, parroting, and it is simply false, without foundation at all. Anyone can "work on an amp", but fewer have an understanding of the inner workings or the science behind how an amp really works.

Myself, and many others, routinely run our amps with a safe mismatch, 2 to 1, and not one has "smoked" anything in the amp.

There is zero proof of what you are parroting, and all of the science and laws of electricity to back up the fact that a safe impedance mismatch is perfectly fine, and sometimes even preferable.
