Absolutely, that's a huge transformer, I'd have gone for around 150W, much cheaper and would easily handle the job....but the above one will do the job no troubles...

I have also the option of either 100, 150, 200

i want it only for the Pro Jr what is best for me?

tnx

The 150 will be more than sufficient.

One of these little gems is about to end up on my Sweetwater Wish List! It may just end up taking the place of my recently purchased Champion 20 amp. Nothing wrong with the Champion 20,...BUT,...I would be MUCH HAPPIER with a Pro Junior. I just LOVE tube amps
so much more than SS. The Champion 20 might go to a friend's young child who wants to learn to play,...it would make a great little amp for him to start out on!

Nice gesture on your part that the child will remember.

I received my Pro Jr. amp today, all I can say is WOW, it sounds awesome! I got
the limited edition grey tweed version because it came with Jensen P10R Speaker.

Nice amp! I bet with that ALNICO Jensen speaker you should be getting a nice tone out of it. My 94 tweed covered sounds like a cousin to a Marshall amp. Enjoy.

That Jenson P10R Vintage Alnico is the same speaker Fender used in the woodie Pro Juniors. I changed mine because I thought the stock speaker sounded muddy. I like it, good choice.

I've never seem a gray Tweed model. Nice amp to own. Start a collection.

The grey tweed must be something new, I have been shopping for a while and they just came
out with this limited edition. I don't believe the color was offered before.

I have a PRRI and wanted another amp with a different tone range, this is exactly what I was
looking for. Totally opposite from the Princeton, higher volume at a much lower setting, breaks
up much earlier, brighter sound.

Thanks Mike,
I have been reading these pages about the Pro Jr and anticipate learning a lot from people
that are using this amp.

Anyone with experience hooking up to a 12" speaker cabinet? I'm thinking about 2x12.

The Pro Junior really only wants to see an 8-ohm load. What this means is that you shouldn't use an extension cab with the built-in speaker in your amp. I mean you could, but the output transformer just isn't going to be happy, and may over-heat. But all is not lost! You can use a 2X12 cabinet with two 16-ohm speakers. Two 16-ohm speakers in parallel gives you an 8-ohm load - perfect for the Pro Jr.! You can use just the PJ for practice and then plug into the 2X12 when you need to move more air. You can even plug into a 4X12 as long as it's rated at 8 ohms. Four 8-ohm speakers, with two in series (16 ohms), the other two in series (another 16 ohms) and then those 2 pairs of speakers in parallel = 8 ohms!

Good luck!

Exactly, it is my understanding you should not go below the lowest ohm rating. I was told you can run in a VC an 8 ohm but, if you run below 4 ohms (actually it is a 3.2 ohm lowest) it will damage your OT. Please correct me if I'm mistaken on this anybody, please! In the case of the Pro Junior don't go below 8 ohms. On some amps for example my Blackstar HT-1 it says on the back the speaker load is between 4 to 16 ohms. It comes with a Blackbird 8 ohm speaker from the Korean factory. I changed it out to a Jensen C8R 8ohm. I tried to put a P8R 4 ohm ALNICO speaker but, the horseshoe magnet stoke out too far!

Yes, you are mistaken, at least about any damage occurring with an impedance mismatch. Impedance matching is commonly misunderstood, and the unfounded fears keep getting parroted over and over, with no real understanding of what it means.

Impedance matching is about getting the most power from the amp, and as long as any impedance mismatch is within a 2 to 1 ratio, the amp will be fine, speaking about tube amps of course. An "8 ohm" amp can easily and safely power speakers from 4 ohms to 16 ohms, and often, a mismatched impedance will give better sound than a matched impedance.

When the impedance of an amp and speaker are mismatched, the amp simply does not develop it's full power, so there is nothing there that can damage anything in the amp or speakers.

The real danger for a tube amp is running too high an impedance, with no speaker connected being the worst case. At some point, if the impedance of the speaker(s) is too high (somewhere above twice the impedance of the amp), the OT can blow due to the load being too light. The opposite case, a short circuit on the amp output, will actually protect the amp from damage, as evidenced by shorting jacks used on many amp outputs to prevent damage if a speaker is not plugged in. So, go as low as you want on the impedance of the speaker(s), just don't go too high (above twice the amp rating). Using a 4 ohm speaker load (ie, two 8 ohm speakers in parallel) with a PJr is perfectly fine.

I routinely use many of my amps with a mismatched impedance (as do many members here), typically half of the amps rating, and have never had any components fail because of it. I do it because I prefer the sound, and I am absolutely certain that no damage will occur due to a mismatch (within a 2 to 1 ratio of course). I challenge you to find even one thread on this forum about an impedance mismatch blowing anything.

In fact, the only tube amp that I've ever had fail on me was an Egnater, lost the power transformer TWICE, and that was while using a "matched" impedance. That can be chalked up to junk transformers. :(
